Job summary

Elsdon Group in Ireland is seeking an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to lead major civil projects and grow the Ireland civil engineering team. You will combine technical leadership with client engagement and mentoring across a diverse portfolio.

You will oversee feasibility to construction, drive technical excellence, manage budgets and programmes, and help expand client relationships across the region. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Civil Engineer; Chartered status preferred.
• Strong background in drainage, infrastructure, highways, SuDS and flood risk.
• Experience leading project teams and multidisciplinary design delivery.
• Proven client-facing experience and ability to develop relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of complex civil engineering projects across all stages.
• Provide technical leadership across drainage, highways, SuDS, flood risk and infrastructure design.
• Manage project teams; coordinate multidisciplinary design and ensure high-quality delivery.
• Act as point of contact for clients; build relationships and support business development.
• Review and approve technical designs, reports and deliverables.
• Mentor and develop engineers; grow the capability of the team.
• Manage programmes, budgets, resources and technical risks.
• Support growth and development of the civil engineering practice.

We're working with a leading global engineering consultancy that's continuing to expand its civil engineering team across Ireland and is looking to bring on an experienced Principal Civil Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to take a step up in leadership, lead major projects and play a key role in developing a growing civil engineering team. You'll combine technical expertise with project leadership, client engagement and mentoring, working across a diverse portfolio of projects throughout Ireland.

The Role

You'll take a leading role in delivering civil engineering projects from initial feasibility and planning through to detailed design and construction, while helping drive technical excellence and the continued growth of the team.

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading the delivery of complex civil engineering projects across all stages.
• Providing technical leadership across drainage, highways, SuDS, flood risk and infrastructure design.
• Managing project teams, coordinating multidisciplinary design and ensuring high-quality technical delivery.
• Acting as a key point of contact for clients, building relationships and supporting business development opportunities.
• Reviewing and approving technical designs, reports and engineering deliverables.
• Mentoring and developing engineers, helping build capability across the wider team.
• Managing project programmes, budgets, resources and technical risks.
• Supporting the continued growth and development of the civil engineering practice.

What They're Looking For

• Degree-qualified Civil Engineer, ideally Chartered with Engineers Ireland or ICE.
• Strong technical background across drainage, infrastructure, highways, SuDS, flood risk and earthworks.
• Experience leading project teams and managing multidisciplinary design delivery.
• Strong client-facing skills and experience developing client relationships.
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of project budgets, programmes and resource management.
• Proficiency with MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
