Job summary

Medtronic in Ireland (Galway) is seeking an experienced engineer to lead computer vision and machine learning development, deployment, and production readiness. You will design scalable ML pipelines, drive CI/CD for ML models, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-enabled healthcare solutions.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, software quality, and delivering production-grade Python systems within a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 7+ years of experience, or Master’s 5+ years, or PhD 3+ years in software/ML.
• Minimum 7 years of experience deploying ML models in production.
• Strong proficiency in Python and scalable software development practices.
• Experience building ML pipelines and cloud-based ML deployment workflows, CI/CD and lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and deploy computer vision and ML models to solve complex problems.
• Build end-to-end ML pipelines for data ingestion, training, validation, and deployment.
• Lead software engineering for Python-based ML systems and drive best practices.

Primary Responsibilities

• Computer Vision \\& Machi ne Learning Development Design, develop, and evaluate computer vision and machine learning models to solve complex business and technical problems. Perform data exploration, feature engineering, and model experimentation. Apply appropriate validation and evaluation methodologies to ensure robust model performance. Continuously improve models through experimentation and iterative development.
• ML Systems and Production Deployment Build end-to-end machine learning pipelines for data ingestion, training, validation, and deployment. Deploy models into production environments as APIs, services, or batch processing pipelines. Implement monitoring and performance tracking for deployed models. Ensure reproducibility, versioning, and lifecycle management of ML models.
• Software Engineering Lead team to develop high-quality, maintainable, and testable Python code for ML systems. Driving software engineering best practices including modular design, automated testing, and code review. Design scalable services and components that integrate ML models into production applications. Providing technical leadership to engineering teams to integrate ML capabilities into broader systems.
• Infrastructure and MLOps Work with cloud-based infrastructure to support ML training and deployment workflows. Implement CI/CD processes for ML pipelines and model releases. Support automation of model retraining and operational monitoring. Ensure reliability, scalability, and observability of ML services.
• Collaboration and Communication Providing technical leadership to teams with data engineers, software engineers, and domain experts. Translate analytical results into practical solutions and production-ready systems. Influencing architectural discussions for AI-enabled platforms and products. Working in agile/scrum framework and with cross-functional groups to influence the project technical direction.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree with minimum 7 years, Master's Degree with 5 years, or PhD with 3 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, or related technical development roles.
• Minimum 7 years of experience developing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in machine learning model development , statistical methods, data science techniques, and model evaluation methodologies.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing scalable, maintainable, and testable software systems.
• Experience building machine learning pipelines and implementing cloud-based ML deployment workflows, CI/CD processes, and model lifecycle management practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience deploying machine learning models into production environments.
• 8+ years of experience developing computer vision solutions and working with large-scale datasets and data engineering workflows.
• Experience designing scalable data processing pipelines, distributed computing solutions, or large-scale machine learning systems.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes, and implementing monitoring and observability capabilities for machine learning services.
