Job summary

St. Vincent’s University Hospital invites applications for the Porter Band III position in the Portering Department. The role involves reception duties, patient transport, deliveries, and assisting with removals to Mortuary, with emphasis on patient care and safety.

The successful candidate will work on a full-time permanent basis in Dublin, with training provided and adherence to health, safety and infection control policies. Closing date 28 September 2026.

Responsibilities

• To assist with enquiries and carry out main reception duties
• Collections and deliveries (e.g. specimens, reports, supplies etc.)
• Provide proper care and attention for patients
• Lifting, positioning of patients
• Escorting patients to other departments as required
• Assist with removals to Mortuary
• Collect and deliver messages throughout hospital/between hospital and other service providers
• Move furniture and other objects as required
• Prepare for removal/remove refuse, clinical waste, linen etc.
• Check and replace medical gas cylinders
• Be familiar with and act in accordance with the Health & Safety standards of the Department
• Be familiar and comply with the hospital infection control policy
• Be familiar and comply with the hospital fire policy, fire drill and the major disaster plan
• Be familiar and comply with the hospital policy on waste disposal
• Undertake and maintain a satisfactory standard of work
• Report to immediate superior on any irregularities that might adversely affect the carrying out of assigned duties
• Because of the special nature of the job, to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene
• To report promptly for duty
• To provide services on an overtime basis as may be required.
