Job summary

Wilton Scrap Metals Limited in Naas, Co. Kildare, is seeking a Plant Mechanic for immediate start. The role requires 2–3 years’ experience; a mechanic qualification is a bonus but not mandatory.

Training will be provided on-the-job. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant equipment used in waste management, ensuring safe and efficient operation. Salary €36,605 per year, 39-hour week, based at Osberstown Business Park.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years’ proven relevant experience as a Plant Mechanic.
• Experience in a waste/recycling environment is a plus.
• Mechanic qualification or certificate is a bonus but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and service machinery and equipment used in waste management, recycling and related activities.
• Ensure all plant machinery operates efficiently and safely, minimizing downtime and supporting overall plant productivity.
• Perform regular maintenance checks on plant machinery, including mixers, conveyors, pumps, crushers, and batching systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance tasks to extend equipment life and minimize breakdowns.
• Lubricate machinery, replace worn parts, and ensure all components are in good working condition.
• Identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in plant equipment and diagnose problems accurately.
• Repair or replace faulty parts, ensuring machinery is returned to full operational capacity in a timely manner.
• Perform both scheduled and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
• Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed on plant equipment.

Our client, Wilton Scrap Metals Limited, based in Co. Kildare, is currently seeking Plant Mechanics for immediate start at their facility in Naas, Co. Kildare. Qualifications: 2‑3 years’ Plant Mechanic experience required. Mechanic certification preferred but not essential. There are no minimum academic requirements. Further training will be provided on‑the‑job as required.

Essential Knowledge

• Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems knowledge.
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.

Essential Skills

• Application of relevant health & safety and environmental legislation.
• Performance of system checks and adjustments on machinery.
• Monitoring of inventory supply for required equipment.
• Ability to assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment or upgrades.
• Competence to monitor stock levels of spare parts, tools, and equipment needed for maintenance and order parts and supplies as needed.

Remuneration & Working Conditions

• Annual Remuneration: €36,605.00; Pay rate €18.05 per hour.
