Job summary

Vp plc is seeking a hands-on plant mechanic to service and repair our fleet of Mini Diggers, Dumpers, Forklifts and Telehandlers. Work both in depots and on customer sites, with a focus on peak machine performance and safe operation.

You’ll inspect, maintain and repair equipment, keep precise records, and support Health & Safety standards across the business. A solid mechanical background and a valid licence are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven mechanical/engineering background in plant or agricultural sectors.
• Qualification in mechanical plant or agricultural engineering is essential.
• Ability to fault-find on plant machinery and depot assets.
• Accurate paperwork and record keeping are required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service and repair plant machinery to high standards.
• Prepare depot equipment for hire and on-site repairs.
• Attend breakdowns on customer sites and perform safe repairs.
• Maintain service/inspection records at all times.
• Identify damage on out-of-service equipment and report it.
• Promote health and safety standards and raise issues to the line manager.
• Keep the work area clean and well-maintained.
• Take on additional duties as required to support operations.

Job description

You’ll be a hands‑on mechanic working on our plant machinery – from Mini Diggers, Dumpers to Forklifts and Telehandlers – carrying out maintenance, servicing, and repairs to the highest standard, whether in our depot or out on customer sites. With your expertise, every machine will perform at peak efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain and repair plant machinery and depot assets to the highest standard
• Prepare equipment in the depot ready for hire
• Attend equipment breakdowns on customer sites to carry out safe and effective repairs as and when needed
• Maintain accurate service and inspection records at all times
• Identify and record damage on out-of-service equipment
• Promote Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, reporting any issues to your line manager
• Keep your work area clean, tidy, and well‑maintained
• Carry out additional duties within your skills and competence as required to support the smooth running of the business

What We’re Looking For

• A proven mechanical or engineering background (Essential)
• A recognised qualification in mechanical plant or agricultural engineering
• Good Mechanical Aptitude, with a hand’s on approach
• Ability to complete records, paperwork accurately is essential
• Plant machinery knowledge and ability to fault find is essential
• A reasonable level of fitness is required due to the physical nature of the work
• To be flexible, trustworthy and reliable and have excellent time keeping skills is essential
• Valid full driving licence
