Job summary

MBRYONICS is seeking a Photonics Systems Engineer to advance packaging concepts for satellite photonics. You will work on process development, design rules, and integration of photonic components, coordinating with teams and clients to deliver on project timelines.

The role requires a physics/engineering background, lab experience, and strong documentation skills; opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge FSO systems in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of photonics principles and optical components.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and measurement techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support photonic package concept development and process development.
  • Propose innovative photonics networking solutions to meet PIC-based requirements.
  • Optimize integration of photonic systems across optical, mechanical, and environmental aspects on satellites.
  • Select and qualify photonic components and suppliers.
  • Conduct optical experiments to support design efforts.
  • Provide QC and yield analysis feedback for design optimization.
  • Train team members on packaging design principles and practices.
  • Coordinate projects with clients and multidisciplinary teams to meet schedules.
  • Manage project planning and progress documentation.
  • Layout designs into GDSII format as needed.
  • Cad work for packaging tasks.
  • Write proposals, bids, and reports for space agencies and funding bodies.

Job description

MBRYONICS is at the forefront of free space optical communications. Our product portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions. Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems. The work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains. As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated - Photonics Systems Engineer - to join our group.

What you'll do
  • Support the development of photonic package concepts, package process development, and their related design rules
  • Propose innovative solutions to meet photonics networking and PIC-based product or market requirements
  • Optimise the integration, form and function of photonic systems amongst their optical, mechanical, and environmental surroundings on the satellite.
  • Procurement selection and qualification of photonic components and suppliers
  • Direct and/or conduct optical experiments needed to support design efforts
  • Quality control and yield analysis to provide feedback for design optimisation
  • Train design and assembly team members on design principles and practices for packaging
  • Project coordination with clients and across multidisciplinary teams to ensure project requirements and delivery schedules are met
  • Project management, planning and progress documentation
  • Layout (convert designs into GDSII format) as required
  • CAD for packaging as required
  • Write proposals, bids, and reports for space agencies and national funding bodies
Who you are
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of photonics principles and optical components.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and measurement techniques.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
