Job description

Job Title: Part-Time Behavioural Analyst – Neurodevelopmental & Functional Support

Location: Denzil Jacobs Occupational Therapy Practice – [City / School-based as agreed]

Position Type: Part-time | Flexible Hours | Contract / Permanent (as agreed)

Denzil Jacobs Occupational Therapy Practice is seeking a data-driven, empathetic, and suitably qualified Behavioural Analyst to support the functional and developmental needs of children and adolescents. The practice specialises in occupational therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, Developmental Coordination Disorder (Dyspraxia), and other neurodivergent profiles.

This role is designed to work in tandem with our Occupational Therapists and Psychotherapists. While the Psychotherapist addresses internal emotional health, the Behavioural Analyst focuses on “wrap-around” support—translating therapeutic goals into positive behavior support plans and functional skills for home and school environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Behavioural Assessment & Intervention: Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs) and design evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming intervention plans.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with the Psychotherapist and Occupational Therapist(s) to ensure a holistic approach where behavioural strategies respect the child’s emotional and sensory needs.
  • Skill Acquisition Programming: Develop and implement programs to improve social communication, executive functioning, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Caregiver & Teacher Coaching: Provide parents, caregivers, and educators with psychoeducation, practical behavioural strategies, and environmental modification techniques.
  • Data-Driven Progress Monitoring: Maintain objective records of client progress, adjusting interventions based on data to ensure optimal developmental outcomes.
  • Sensory-Behaviour Integration: Collaborate with OTs to distinguish between sensory-processing challenges and learned behavioural patterns, ensuring interventions are compassionate and appropriate.
  • Compliance & Ethics: Maintain thorough, confidential client records in line with HPCSA (where applicable) and POPIA
  • Crisis Prevention: Offer proactive de-escalation strategies and safety planning for families dealing with high-intensity behaviours.
Required Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Academic Background: Honours or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), or Special Education.
  • Professional Registration: Registration with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa), SACE, or international certification (e.g., BCBA/BCaBA) is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience working with children and adolescents, with a specific focus on neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Proven Understanding of:
    • Autism, Down Syndrome, Dyspraxia, and ADHD.
    • The intersection of sensory integration and behavioural presentation.
    • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and neurodiversity-affirming care.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and communicate complex behavioural concepts to families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Multidisciplinary Experience: Previous experience working alongside OTs, Speech Therapists, or Psychotherapists.
  • School-Based Support: Familiarity with assisting children within mainstream or remedial school environments.
  • Adaptive Style: A flexible, child-centred approach that prioritises the child’s autonomy and long-term functional independence.
  • Commitment to Advocacy: Dedicated to family engagement and helping society better understand neurodivergent behaviours.
