Job summary

Digital Manufacturing Ireland is seeking an experienced OT integration specialist to join our team. You will integrate PLCs, SCADA/DCS with MES and ERP systems, design data pipelines, and support UNS architectures.

You’ll collaborate with Automation, AI and Data Engineering teams on industrial projects and client engagements. Applicants should have a strong background in ISA-95, OPC UA/MQTT, SQL databases and MES/ERP integration (SAP).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics or equivalent.
  • 5 years' experience in industrial automation, OT integration or manufacturing systems.
  • Proven experience integrating PLC-based manufacturing systems with higher-level software platforms.
  • Experience with Ignition or DeltaV, SCADA or DCS.
  • Experience with MES and ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and communication standards.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate PLC, SCADA and DCS systems with MES, ERP and enterprise platforms.
  • Develop industrial data collection and contextualisation solutions across manufacturing environments.
  • Configure and deploy industrial communication protocols including OPC UA and MQTT.
  • Support UNS architectures and ISA-95 manufacturing architectures.
  • Develop SQL databases and support manufacturing data integration pipelines.
  • Collaborate with Automation, AI and Data Engineering teams to prepare data for analytics and AI.
  • Deliver training courses, workshops and knowledge transfer sessions on OT integration.

Digital Manufacturing Ireland is supported by the Government of Ireland through IDA Ireland and has been established to help manufacturers accelerate their adoption of digital technologies.

DMI offers a state-of-the-art physical and digital factory, a vendor showcase, industry collaboration spaces, and training facilities. The DMI facility brings together technology, expertise, and business support to help manufacturing companies transform, innovate, and future-proof their operations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Integrate PLC, SCADA and DCS systems with MES, ERP and enterprise platforms.
  • Develop industrial data collection and contextualisation solutions across manufacturing environments.
  • Configure and deploy industrial communication protocols including OPC UA and MQTT.
  • Support the development and implementation of Unified Namespace (UNS) architectures.
  • Design and implement OT integration solutions aligned with ISA-95 manufacturing architectures.
  • Develop SQL databases and support manufacturing data integration pipelines.
  • Support integration with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and ERP platforms such as SAP.
  • Collaborate with Automation, AI and Data Engineering teams to prepare manufacturing data for analytics and AI applications.
  • Support client projects through technical workshops, site assessments, solution design and implementation activities.
  • Deliver training courses, workshops and knowledge transfer sessions on OT integration, industrial networking and digital manufacturing technologies.
  • Develop proof-of-concept demonstrators and exemplar projects for DMI's Technology Centre and client engagements.
  • Collaborate with technology vendors to evaluate new OT, MES and industrial software solutions and identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Support the identification, evaluation and onboarding of new technology partners aligned with DMI's strategic objectives.
  • Represent DMI during client meetings, industry events, demonstrations and collaborative research projects.
  • Evaluate emerging OT technologies and contribute to internal research and development initiatives.
Key Skills and Competencies
  • Strong technical expertise in Operational Technology (OT) integration.
  • Experience integrating PLCs, SCADA and DCS platforms.
  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Understanding of ERP integration, particularly SAP.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of ISA-95 manufacturing architecture.
  • Experience with OPC UA, MQTT and industrial communication protocols.
  • Strong SQL and manufacturing database experience.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Innovative mindset with a willingness to evaluate and implement new technologies.

  • Experience integrating Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and communication standards.
Desired Skills (Advantageous)
  • Experience implementing Unified Namespace (UNS) architectures.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with cloud connectivity (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience with historian platforms and manufacturing data analytics.
  • Experience within Medical Device, Pharmaceutical or other regulated manufacturing industries.
