Job summary

Smartedge Solutions in Dublin, Ireland, is seeking an experienced Oracle DBA with AWS and PostgreSQL expertise to join the Database Team. The role focuses on managing cloud-based databases (Oracle 19c, Postgres 17) across AWS services, with on-call rotations and weekend deployments as needed.

You will ensure performance tuning, security, and availability, collaborating with developers, system admins, and DevOps to integrate DB changes into CI/CD pipelines and deliver reliable database services

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing Oracle and PostgreSQL databases on cloud platforms.
• Ability to implement and optimize database performance in AWS environments.
• Deep knowledge of RDS, Aurora, EC2 deployments and cross-region configurations.
• Experience with automated backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
• Strong scripting abilities (PowerShell, Python, or similar) for DB operations.

Smartedge Client is looking for an individual to help with their Oracle DBA (AWS , PostgreSQL) @ Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid Working)

Job Description :

The Database team is responsible for managing and supporting our Managed Services clients. The role involves being a member of the database team within Managed Services which is responsible for maintaining managed services databases on the cloud (oracle 19c, Postgres 17) including:

• Management of all managed services environments (internal and client-facing)
• Provide support for any database related issues to all clients, particularly managed services clients
• Manage high severity incidents via SPGI process and work with all stakeholders to resolve issues as soon as possible including attending client bridge calls
• Ensure Database requests are dealt with within defined SLA’s
• Modelling and scripting database changes for all our products
• Ensure client releases are packaged and made available in a timely manner
• Be available for occasional on-call rotation or weekend deployments

Our cloud is hosted on AWS, and includes Amazon RDS, Amazon EC2, and Amazon Aurora. The role requires expertise in database performance tuning, security, cloud-based best practices, and ensuring continuous availability.

The DBA will collaborate closely with developers, system administrators, and DevOps teams to ensure efficient database integration with business applications.

• Administer and maintain Oracle and PostgreSQL databases hosted on Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, and Amazon EC2.
• Perform database installations, patching, and upgrades on AWS infrastructure.
• Configure and manage multi-AZ deployments, Read Replicas, and cross region architectures
• Implement database partitioning, compression, and indexing to optimize performance.
• Conduct deep performance analysis at the system, query, and indexing levels.
• Recommend and implement architectural improvements for scalability.
• Guide application teams in schema and query optimization.
• Design and implement automated backup strategies using AWS Backup and RDS Automated Snapshots for RDS oracle and Aurora Postgres
• Use Oracle RMAN for Oracle database backups and recovery.
• Develop and test disaster recovery plans.
• Configure proactive alerts for performance issues, storage limits, and availability risks using CloudWatch, lambda and AWS SNS.
• Collaborate with developers, cloud architects, and DevOps teams to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.
