Job description

Occupational Therapist ( Basic Grade) Permanent 33 Hours per Week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist (Basic Grade) to join the Bon Secours Health System Hospital Galway. Ireland's Largest Private Healthcare provider.


Job Purpose:

The post holder has a pivotal role in coordinating activity and resources within the Occupational Therapy department service, ensuring a holistic and appropriate therapy service is provided to patients. Responsibility for current service provision and development as part of the overall service planning and delivery.


Ideal Candidate:


  • Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge of OT assessment and treatment of acute and elderly patients with medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions using evidence-based practice.

  • Demonstrate experience in an acute hospital setting working with physical conditions.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of current models of practice and experience in the implementation of treatment/ intervention.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of complex discharge planning along side MDT.


Essential Qualifications:


  • Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.


Experience & Responsibility:

The person holding this post is required to support the principle that the care of the patient always comes first and will approach their work with the flexibility and enthusiasm necessary to make this principle a reality for every patient to the greatest possible degree. Maintain throughout the Hospital awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities. Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and review of treatment / intervention programs for patients according to service standards. Communicate verbally and/ or in writing results of assessments, treatment/ intervention programs and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with requirements. Attend ward rounds, team meetings, case conferences, clinics, etc. as designated by Senior Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapy Manager.
