Job summary

Excel Recruitment's client is recruiting an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of safety standards across a nationwide multi-site portfolio. The role is based at Naas with one day work from home and some nationwide travel.

You will lead risk assessments, RAMS, audits, and training, ensuring compliance with Irish legislation, COSHH, and reporting to the Property Manager. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years' multi-site H&S experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' H&S experience in a multi-site environment.
• Recognised Health & Safety qualification.
• Experience in risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety programs.
• Strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of health and safety standards across the organisation’s nationwide portfolio.
• Create, roll out and refresh safety policies, procedures and safe practices to support compliance.
• Work with the Retail Operations Manager to align policies with safety requirements.
• Undertake routine safety inspections and audits across sites.
• Visit locations to complete site-specific risk assessments and advise on contractor requirements.
• Manage RAMS and Permits to Work; supervise COSHH assessments and controls.
• Present findings to the Property Manager and drive remedial actions.
• Investigate accidents and near misses, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Analyze incident patterns and propose measures to reduce risk.
• Maintain Safety Statements and risk assessments; keep registers current.
• Plan and test emergency arrangements, including drills and business continuity.
• Arrange and deliver health and safety training, including manual handling and fire warden courses.
• Serve as a key contact for regulators and respond to enforcement notices.

Job description

My client is a well-established, multi-site organisation which includes retail stores, offices, apartments, and warehouses nationwide.

They are recruiting an experienced Health & Safety Manager who will report to the Property Manager and will be part of a wider property team.

This job is based out of their Naas head office with one day work from home and some nationwide travel.

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 2 years' Health & Safety experience, across a multi-site environment, along with a recognised Health & Safety qualification.

You’ll have practical experience in risk assessments, incident investigation, safety management systems and training, with strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation.

Salary & Package

• €60k-€70k negotiable but must reflect level of experience
• 22 Days Annual Leave plus Good Friday and three days over Christmas

Key Responsibilities for the job of Health & Safety Manager

• Take ownership of health and safety standards across the organisation’s nationwide portfolio.
• Create, roll out and regularly refresh health and safety policies, procedures and safe working practices to support organisation-wide compliance.
• Work with the Retail Operations Manager to ensure wider operational policies reflect relevant health and safety requirements.
• Undertake routine safety inspections and audits across retail, office and warehouse sites.
• Visit new and existing locations to complete site-specific risk assessments and advise on requirements for external contractors.
• Assess contractor and site documentation, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), Safe Plans of Action and Permits to Work.
• Manage ongoing COSHH assessments and confirm that suitable controls are implemented and maintained.
• Present inspection and audit findings to the Property Manager, agree remedial actions and follow them through to completion.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, establish root causes and put effective corrective and preventative measures in place.
• Analyse accident and incident patterns and recommend practical measures to reduce risk and strengthen safety performance.
• Keep company Safety Statements and organisation-wide Risk Assessments accurate, current and compliant.
• Maintain statutory inspection, testing and certification registers covering fire safety, emergency lighting, portable appliance testing and lifting equipment.
• Plan, maintain and test emergency arrangements across all sites, including fire evacuation drills, business continuity exercises and regular readiness reviews.
• Arrange and deliver health and safety training, including manual handling and fire warden programmes.
• Serve as the key contact for visits from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and other regulators.
• Manage the organisation’s response to any enforcement notices issued by regulatory bodies.
• Contribute to quarterly Health, Safety and Compliance meetings by sharing updates and helping drive ongoing improvements.
• Keep health and safety records and documentation accurate, up to date and easy to access, including building profiles held within the organisation’s safety management system.
• Compile regular health and safety performance reports and updates for the Property Manager.
