Job summary

g2 Recruitment seeks a Mechanical Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for a major site-based project in Dublin, Ireland. You will oversee the Mechanical Safe System of Work across the project, including gas, water, lubrication and energy systems, ensuring zero-energy isolation before works commence.

The role requires formal SAP training, Gas Safe registration and extensive experience with RAMS, LOTO, pressure testing and PED/ATEX systems. A SOLAS Safe Pass is essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold recognised mechanical trade or engineering qualifications.
• Formal Mechanical SSoW/AP/SAP training with evidence of previous appointment and competence.
• Gas Safe registration/qualification required for gas isolation/disconnection/reinstatement activities.
• Strong knowledge of natural gas systems, PED/pressure systems and energy isolation.
• RAMS review and safety program oversight required.

Responsibilities

• Implement, maintain and monitor the project Mechanical Safe System of Work (MSSoW).
• Review and approve high-risk RAMS, safety programmes and mechanical activities.
• Provide SAP oversight and approval for high-risk isolations, energisations, LOTO and pressure testing.
• Oversee PED and ATEX-classified systems and verify documentation.
• Review P&IDs, line lists, drawings and OEM information before isolations and energisations.
• Ensure all mechanical energy sources are isolated, depressurised, drained and proven at zero energy before work starts.
• Manage and oversee Mechanical Permit-to-Work arrangements.
• Carry out safety audits/inspections and manage non-conformances.
• Provide technical guidance to Mechanical APs, DAPs and Competent Persons.
• Coordinate with Electrical SAP where interfaces exist.

Mechanical Senior Authorised Person (SAP)

Location: Dublin, Ireland (site-based)

Contract: Freelance, 12 to 18 months

Rate: DOE

THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join a major construction project in Dublin. You will have senior oversight and control of the Mechanical Safe System of Work (MSSoW) across the project. The systems include natural gas, HVO/diesel, starting and instrument air, lube oil, urea, treated water, glycol/chilled water systems and associated mechanical plant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement, maintain and monitor the project Mechanical SSoW
• Review and approve high-risk RAMS, Safety Programmes and mechanical activities
• Provide SAP oversight and approval for high-risk isolations, energisations, LOTO and pressure testing
• Oversee PED and ATEX-classified systems
• Review P&IDs, line lists, drawings, OEM information and system documentation before isolations and energisations
• Make sure all mechanical energy sources are correctly identified, isolated, depressurised, drained/vented and proven at zero energy before work starts
• Manage and oversee Mechanical Permit-to-Work arrangements
• Carry out safety audits and inspections and manage any non-conformances
• Provide technical guidance and oversight to Mechanical APs, DAPs and Competent Persons
• Coordinate with the Electrical SAP where mechanical systems interface with electrical supplies, controls, motors or actuators
• Liaise with the Client, PSCS, system owners and project management on mechanical isolation and energisation activities
• Make sure systems are correctly reinstated, tested and formally returned to service

GAS SYSTEMS

Under the project Mechanical Safety Rules and Procedures (MSR+P), all gas isolations, disconnections and reinstatments must be carried out by a registered Gas Safe Engineer in line with current Gas Safety Regulations. You will be responsible for verifying that all CPs, APs, engineers and other personnel working on gas systems hold the required qualifications and registrations for their activities. A gas soundness certificate must be obtained from the contractor before any system is restarted, with records retained for audit.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Current SOLAS Safe Pass
• Recognised mechanical trade or engineering qualification
• Previous Mechanical AP/SAP experience on a major construction, commissioning, industrial, energy or data centre project
• Formal Mechanical SSoW/AP/SAP training, with evidence of previous appointment and competence
• Appropriate Gas Safe registration/qualification where undertaking or controlling gas isolation, disconnection or reinstatement activities
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience of:
• Natural gas systems
• PED / pressure systems
• Mechanical LOTO and isolation
• Pressure testing
• Commissioning and energisation
• P&IDs and line lists
• Stored energy control
• RAMS review

DESIRABLE

• 5+ years’ relevant mechanical construction or commissioning experience
• Previous Senior AP experience, ideally with a formal SAP appointment on a similar project

APPOINTMENT

The successful candidate will complete a project-specific competency assessment and be formally appointed in writing as Mechanical SAP, with scope and level of authorisation defined before starting SAP duties.
