Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with at least 5 years’ experience in construction, ideally working on resort expansions and large commercial developments.

This is a site-based role with a strong focus on installation oversight, coordination, and commissioning of mechanical systems.

The position will be primarily based in Longford, with the initial month spent on site in Lucan or Portlaoise, and will require regular travel between sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation of mechanical systems on resort and commercial projects, ensuring work is completed to specification, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors to resolve issues and maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Inspect mechanical installations to ensure compliance with Irish building regulations, health & safety requirements, and project standards.
  • Coordinate plant and equipment submittals, ensuring timely review, approval, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Monitor progress against project schedules and prepare regular updates for the management team.
  • Support commissioning activities, including system testing, balancing, and performance verification.
  • Manage snag lists, follow up on rectifications, and ensure all close-out documentation is completed.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to confirm delivery timelines and technical compliance of equipment.
  • Ensure mechanical services integrate effectively with other trades on site.
  • Travel between sites as required to meet project needs.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Mechanical engineering qualification (degree, diploma, or relevant trade background).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience on construction projects, with exposure to resort and/or commercial builds.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services (HVAC, plumbing, drainage, heating, chilled water, pumps).
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple subcontractors and manage site activities.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and site safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Full, clean driving license and flexibility to travel between sites.
