Job summary

AECOM in Dublin is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our established team across commercial, healthcare, education, residential and infrastructure sectors. You will design mechanical building services, work with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to sustainable and innovative solutions.

The role offers hybrid work options and opportunities to progress toward Chartered Engineer status within a multidisciplinary consultancy.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or related discipline.
  • Experience in a building services consultancy delivering mechanical designs.
  • Knowledge of Irish/UK building regs and BIM practices.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design software and Revit.
  • Understanding of HVAC, public health, low-carbon systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical building services systems including HVAC, water, drainage, and low-carbon energy.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, reports and design documentation.
  • Develop designs using BIM platforms and industry software.
  • Assist in delivering projects from concept to handover.
  • Coordinate with electrical, structural, architectural teams.
  • Attend client and design-team meetings; site meetings as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with regs, standards and sustainability targets.
  • Provide practical engineering solutions and mentor junior staff.
  • Deliver work to quality, budget and programme; contribute to energy-efficient strategies.

Job description

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our established Dublin team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, industrial, and public infrastructure.

As part of a multidisciplinary consultancy environment, you will contribute to the design and delivery of high‑quality mechanical building services solutions, working closely with clients, architects, contractors, and fellow engineering professionals. The successful candidate will be technically capable, commercially aware, and committed to delivering sustainable and innovative engineering solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), domestic water services, drainage, public health systems, and low‑carbon energy solutions.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Develop mechanical designs using industry‑standard software and BIM platforms.
  • Assist in the delivery of projects from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, and handover.
  • Coordinate designs with electrical, structural, architectural, and specialist disciplines.
  • Attend client, design team, and site meetings as required.
  • Ensure designs comply with current regulations, standards, sustainability targets, and industry best practices.
  • Identify technical challenges and contribute practical, efficient engineering solutions.
  • Support and mentor graduate and junior engineers within the team.
  • Deliver work to agreed quality standards, budgets, and project programmes.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable, energy‑efficient building services strategies aligned with project and client objectives.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within a building services consultancy environment, delivering mechanical design solutions across a range of sectors.
  • Knowledge of Irish and UK building regulations, standards, and mechanical building services design practices.
  • Proficiency in industry‑standard mechanical design software and BIM platforms, including Revit.
  • Understanding of HVAC, public health, low‑carbon, and sustainable building services systems.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and client‑facing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving abilities with a focus on delivering practical and innovative engineering solutions.
  • Commitment to professional development and working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status (Engineers Ireland, CIBSE, or equivalent).
