Job summary

Ethos Engineering is seeking a Project Design Engineer - Mechanical with 3–5 years of building services experience to join our Engineering Studio. You will work on data centre and other mission-critical projects, leading defined tasks from concept to completion under limited supervision.

You will own design work, QA processes, and coordination with colleagues while mentoring junior engineers and upholding internal standards across lifecycle phases.

Qualifications

• Typically 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering within building services consultancy.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers is desirable.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Oversee elements of design work and coordinate with other disciplines; may supervise junior staff.
• Champion QA across projects and promote internal QA compliance.
• Maintain project mechanical design files and contribute to standards evolution.
• Take ownership of mechanical systems from concept to commissioning and handover.
• Ensure design and installation meet CIBSE/ASHRAE/BS/IS/EN standards.
• Develop detailed mechanical specifications, tender packages, and reports.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team development.
• Promote proactive communication to support project delivery.
