Job summary

PGIM Ireland is seeking a Manager, Reinsurance Operations based in Ireland, with hybrid/remote options. You will design and lead the operational framework for Bermuda captives and support treaty onboarding, settlements, reporting, and retrocession management.

You will work with actuarial, finance, legal and IT teams to ensure compliant, efficient operations across the reinsurance lifecycle, including BAU and continuous improvement in a lean environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in life insurance or reinsurance.
• Experience designing, implementing, or improving operational processes.
• Strong knowledge of reinsurance structures including internal reinsurance and retrocession.
• Experience in regulated environments with governance expectations.
• Excellent organizational, project management, analytical and problem‑solving skills.

This role can be based from our Letterkenny office (2 days onsite a week), we are also open to remote due to the nature of the position.

Prudential Financial Inc.’s (PFI) Bermuda Reinsurance team is seeking a skilled and highly motivated individual to fill a Manager, Reinsurance Operations role that will be based in Ireland and report to the Director, Reinsurance Operations, supporting the Bermuda based affiliate reinsurance companies, Gibraltar Reinsurance Company Ltd. (Gibraltar Re) and Lotus Reinsurance Company Ltd. (Lotus Re).

This role is ideal for a life reinsurance operations professional with 5+ years of experience, who is ready to play a key role in a newly formed operations function.

You will initially support the design and lead the implementation of the operational framework, and then take responsibility for assigned business-as-usual activities, controls, documentation, issue resolution, and continuous improvement across the two reinsurance captives.

You will work closely with colleagues in actuarial, finance, legal and IT to ensure efficient and compliant operations across all stages of the reinsurance lifecycle — including treaty onboarding, transaction processing, reporting, and retrocession management.

Primary Responsibilities

• Build Phase: Support the design and lead the implementation of core reinsurance and retrocession operational processes for the captives, including treaty onboarding, financial settlements, and reporting.
• Establish procedures, controls and documentation in line with internal standards.
• Collaborate with colleagues to define and implement infrastructure, data flows, and operating procedures that support internal reinsurance and third-party retrocession, including IT and data integration.
• Coordinate operational readiness for new treaties, amendments, system changes, and reporting requirements, including requirements documentation, testing, implementation tracking, and transition to business-as-usual ownership.
• Support the integration of operations with actuarial valuation, pricing, finance and risk management.
• Participate in transaction negotiations related to operational arrangements and support the transition of negotiated transactions into sustainable processes.
• Develop clear working instructions and backup arrangements that promote operational continuity and reduce key-person dependency.
• Steady-State Operations: Lead the ongoing administration of assigned reinsurance and retrocession arrangements, ensuring data accuracy, timeliness, control execution, and audit readiness.
• Coordinate the processing of internal reinsurance treaties and external retrocession activities, including settlements and operational follow‑up with third‑party reinsurers.
• Establish and perform reconciliations across treaty data, settlements, actuarial reporting, and financial reporting, and coordinate the investigation and resolution of discrepancies.
• Maintain effective day‑to‑day relationships with cedants, retrocessionaires, outsourced vendors, and service providers on operational matters, escalating material items when appropriate.
• Collaborate with internal teams on quarterly and annual reporting, financial close, actuarial valuation, and audit activities by providing complete, accurate, and timely operational information and evidence.
• Monitor operational issues, dependencies, and control concerns; coordinate timely resolution; and elevate material risks, delays, or decisions.
• Continuously evaluate and improve operational processes for scalability, efficiency, data quality, transparency, and risk control.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on assigned reinsurance operations and provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, actuarial science, finance, or a related discipline.

Minimum 5+ years of experience in life insurance or reinsurance, ideally with exposure to both operational and technical aspects of treaty administration.

Strong knowledge of reinsurance structures, with specific understanding of internal reinsurance and retrocession to external parties.

Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or improving operational processes, especially in build‑out or transformation environments.

Experience or familiarity with supporting reinsurance operations within a regulated environment and an understanding of the control, documentation, and governance expectations applicable to long‑term reinsurance operations.

Strong organizational, project management, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

Agile is a plus.

Ability to work effectively in a lean team environment, combine strategic perspective with hands‑on delivery, and manage multiple priorities.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize and follow through on commitments, maintain strong attention to detail, and consistently deliver high‑quality work within required timelines.

Strong responsiveness and accountability, with a commitment to proactive communication, timely follow‑up, and effective stakeholder management.

Sound judgment in reviewing, validating, and challenging outputs, including those generated through automation or AI‑enabled tools.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions and locations.

It’d be a plus if you had

• Fellow or Associate of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or equivalent designation.
• Working knowledge of Bermuda Solvency Capital Requirement and/or Solvency II frameworks as they apply to long‑term reinsurance operations.
• Experience with financial settlements, operational reconciliations, actuarial or financial reporting support, third‑party retrocession, or outsourced service providers.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with database, reporting, and automation tools such as Microsoft Access, VBA, Power Query, or similar technologies.
• Experience leveraging generative AI and other productivity tools to improve efficiency, automate routine activities, and enhance operational processes while maintaining appropriate human review and quality control.
• Python or similar programming experience, used to interrogate databases.
• Japanese language skill would be a plus.
