Job summary

Sigmar Recruitment is seeking a Maintenance Fitter for a rotating shift pattern (Days, Evenings, Nights) at a long-established site in Co. Galway.

You will deliver preventative maintenance, drive mechanical KPIs, and lead root-cause analysis to improve uptime and reliability across production lines. The role requires a relevant trade qualification or mechanical engineering degree, hands-on maintenance experience in manufacturing, and strong preventative maintenance and troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification or engineering degree in mechanical discipline.
  • Experience in industrial maintenance within manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and production-line equipment.
  • Experience delivering preventative maintenance within a structured framework.
  • Hands-on fault diagnosis and repair of manufacturing equipment.
  • Solid understanding of production processes and how mechanical reliability supports them.
  • Identify potential problems proactively and implement timely solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting across mechanical and plant systems.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and regulatory standards for industrial maintenance.

Responsibilities

Maintenance Fitter (Days, Evenings, Nights - Rotating shift)

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role sits within the engineering and maintenance function of a long-established manufacturing site in Co. Galway, a facility recognized for consistent production performance and technical rigor. The organization has built its reputation on operational excellence and sustained investment in plant reliability, creating an environment where mechanical expertise translates directly into commercial outcomes. This is an opportunity to take ownership of mechanical maintenance delivery across a rotating shift pattern, directly influencing plant uptime, efficiency KPIs, and the overall performance of a high-output production environment. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping how the site's mechanical infrastructure supports its wider operational and commercial goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver preventative maintenance programes that protect plant uptime and production continuity.
  • Drive mechanical efficiency KPIs across the site, converting technical performance into commercial results.
  • Lead root cause analysis on breakdowns, turning reactive fixes into lasting reliability gains.
  • Identify risks and opportunities across the mechanical infrastructure ahead of failure points.
  • Influence production, NPD, and trial outcomes by ensuring mechanical systems support cross-functional priorities.
  • Execute equipment modifications that improve throughput, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide line cover during production runs, safeguarding continuity of output.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that raise plant performance standards over time.
  • Uphold rigorous safety and regulatory compliance across all maintenance activity.
  • Mentor and upskill engineering and maintenance colleagues, strengthening team-wide technical capability.
  • Partner with cross-functional project teams to deliver site-wide engineering initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Relevant trade qualification and/or engineering degree in a mechanical discipline.
  • Demonstrated maintenance experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial machinery and production-line mechanical systems.
  • Proven capability delivering preventative maintenance programes within a structured maintenance framework.
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving faults on manufacturing equipment.
  • Solid understanding of production processes and how mechanical reliability supports them.
  • Ability to identify potential problems proactively and implement timely, effective solutions.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills across mechanical and plant systems.
  • Sound knowledge of health, safety, and regulatory standards applicable to industrial maintenance work.
  • Effective communicator, capable of engaging across engineering, production, and leadership functions.
  • Confident operating with autonomy while contributing effectively within a wider engineering team.
  • Competent IT/PC skills to support maintenance record-keeping and reporting systems.
