Job summary

Gaeltec Utilities seeks a skilled Lineworker to join our Kilkenny team. The role covers construction, maintenance, repair, and inspection of overhead distribution and transmission networks.

You will work at heights, use specialised tools, and follow safety regulations to ensure reliable electricity delivery, collaborating with apprentices and supervisors as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Lineworker.
  • Experience with overhead distribution or transmission networks.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to different customer sites.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Valid Safe Pass desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair and replace overhead and underground power lines and related equipment.
  • Erect poles, crossarms, insulators, conductors and associated hardware.
  • Install and commission transformers and network equipment.
  • Support planned maintenance and asset replacement programmes.
  • Contribute to network upgrades and reinforcement projects.
  • Locate, diagnose and restore supply interruptions; assist restoration teams.
  • Operate tools, equipment and vehicles per training and authorisation.
  • Climb poles to service power lines and ensure safety compliance.
  • Communicate with customers, landowners and stakeholders during work.
  • Assist apprentices/trainee Lineworkers with guidance and knowledge sharing.

Job Description

The role of Lineworker is responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair, and inspection of overhead electrical distribution and transmission networks. The role involves working at height, operating specialised tools and equipment, and ensuring the save and reliable delivery of electricity. The Lineworker must adhere to all safety procedures, regulations and Company and client policies and procedures while working in challenging outdoor environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, repair and replace overhead and underground power lines, poles, transformers, insulators and related electrical equipment.
  • Erecting and replacing poles, crossarms insulators, conductors, stays and associated hardware.
  • Installation and commission of transformers and network equipment.
  • Planned maintenance and asset replacement programmes.
  • Network upgrades and reinforcement projects.
  • Locating, diagnosing and restoring supply interruptions and support team restoration activities.
  • Operate tools, equipment and vehicles in accordance with training, certification and authorisation.
  • Climb poles to service power lines.
  • Service transmission and distribution lines from power plants to buildings.
  • Install electrical equipment for power systems.
  • Repair aboveground and below-ground power lines.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety and Environment legislation, Company and client policies and procedures.
  • Participate in team briefings, toolbox talks and training as required by the Company and its client.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to work activities.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and follow instructions from supervisors and experienced Lineworkers to support the safe and efficient completion of work activities.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, landowners and stakeholders when carrying out work activities.
  • Support apprentices/trainee Lineworkers through knowledge sharing and on-the-job guidance.
  • Respond to emergency callouts and outage restoration activities.

To be considered for a Lineworker role, you will Ideally have the following:

  • Minium 2 years’ experience working as a qualified Lineworker within overhead distribution or transmission networks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of overhead electrical distribution and transmission systems.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety rules and industry standards.
  • Full Driving Licence and willingness to travel and work at various customer sites.
  • Availability to work shifts, evenings, weekends and on short notice.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Valid Safe Pass, Manual Handling is desirable.
