Job summary

Ballinlough Refrigeration Limited seeks an experienced Light Commercial Vehicle Mechanic to service our Roscommon, Cork, and Dublin facilities. You will inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain refrigerated vans, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while minimizing downtime.

The role requires a minimum of 3 years in LCVs, refrigeration system experience, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team across multiple sites. 40-hour weeks with overtime/on-call potential may apply.

Qualifications

• Experience with refrigeration systems (e.g. Thermo King, Carrier) is highly desirable.
• Refrigeration handling certification is desirable but not required.

Job Description

Our client, Ballinlough Refrigeration Limited, based in Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon, is currently seeking Light Commercial Vehicle Mechanics for immediate start for their facilities in Roscommon, Cork and Dublin.

Duties & Responsibilities

• To be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of light commercial vehicles (primarily refrigerated vans) to ensure maximum operational efficiency, compliance with road safety standards, and minimal downtime.
• To perform diagnostic tests on light commercial vehicles, completing repairs, and ensuring vehicles are safe and adhere to regulatory standards.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues on LCVs using diagnostic tools and software.
• Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
• Repair and replace parts including engines, brakes, suspension, transmission, and refrigeration units.
• Perform pre-NCT checks and ensure all vehicles meet required safety and compliance standards.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repairs carried out.
• Respond to breakdowns and perform roadside assistance when required.
• Collaborate with the Fleet Manager to schedule maintenance and ensure minimal disruption to operations.
• Ensure all work is performed in line with company health and safety procedures and environmental regulations.
• Ensure that all repairs and maintenance work meet or exceed regulatory standards.

Requirements & Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience working on light commercial vehicles as a mechanic
• Experience working on refrigerated vehicles is an advantage
• Mechanic qualification is an advantage but is not required
• Experience with refrigeration systems (e.g. Thermo King, Carrier) is highly desirable.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility for occasional overtime and on-call duties.
• Refrigeration handling certification (e.g. F-Gas certification) is desirable.
• Experience with vehicle diagnostic software (e.g. TEXA, Snap-on).
• Familiarity with health & safety protocols in a workshop environment.
• Proven ability to perform all role responsibilities listed above.

Annual Remuneration: €37,544.00; Pay rate €18.05 per hour
