Job Description

The Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS), Division for Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY), is seeking a licensed psychologist to join a multidisciplinary treatment team in a Juvenile Justice residential setting. The responsibilities include:

  1. Ordering and maintaining updated testing and assessment materials.
  2. Supervising testing and assessment conducted by Masters level psychologists and unlicensed psychologists.
  3. Conducting admission screenings, including mental status exams and suicide assessments.
  4. Performing 30-day assessments with mental health and substance use screenings, interviews, and record reviews to develop psychosocial assessments and treatment plans.
  5. Collaborating with psychiatrists and treatment teams for care planning.
  6. Providing individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.
  7. Conducting cognitive and psychological testing as needed.
  8. Participating in the facility's Committee on Special Education.
  9. Planning for youth discharge.

The psychologist works with youth case managers, staff, education, and medical teams to develop treatment plans that enhance emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. The role reports to the Facility Assistant Director for Treatment, with additional monthly supervision and training opportunities provided by DJJOY.

Minimum Qualifications
  • One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or a similar eligible title.
  • Open to the public and part of the NY HELPS program.
  • Must be licensed and registered to practice psychology in New York State, maintaining a valid license and registration.
