Job description

PFH Technology Group are currently recruiting for Lead Integration & Interoperability Architect to work with our client.

Role Overview

You will provide strategic and hands-on architectural leadership for the integration capability and its associated data platform. The role is accountable for defining how data is received, validated, transformed, standardised, governed and made available to the platform, which is based on the Better EHR platform, and to other approved national services.

The integration estate will receive data from a wide range of clinical, administrative and operational systems using heterogeneous formats and protocols. These may include HL7 v2 and v3 messages, HL7 FHIR, openEHR, JSON, XML, CSV and other file-based or API-based exchanges. You will establish the patterns, standards and governance required to convert these inputs into consistent, reusable and clinically meaningful target representations.

The role will have particular responsibility for the integration and ingestion layers that connect source systems to the platform, while providing architectural oversight across the wider transformation, standardisation and consumption capabilities. You must ensure that decisions made at the point of ingestion support downstream clinical modelling, data quality, operational use, analytics and future reuse.

You must be able to work across technology, data, clinical informatics and business domains at both enterprise and detailed solution level. You will engage with source-system owners, programme teams, clinical stakeholders, data engineers, integration developers, technology teams, information governance, cyber security, suppliers and the platform provider.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Integration and Interoperability Architecture
  • 2. Rhapsody and Integration-Layer Ownership
  • 3. Integration, Transformation and Data Standardisation Architecture
  • 4. Standards and Clinical Modelling
  • 5. Data Quality, Validation and Transformation
  • 6. API, Messaging and Event-Driven Integration
  • 7. Security, Privacy and Information Governance
  • 8. Reliability, Observability and Operations
  • 9. Architecture Governance and Assurance
  • 10. Stakeholder, Supplier and Team Leadership
Qualifications and Experience
  • A primary or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Health Informatics or an equivalent discipline or level of professional experience.
  • Typically 10 or more years' experience in integration, solution, technical, data or enterprise architecture, including substantial responsibility for large-scale integration programmes.
  • Experience leading multi-year transformation initiatives involving heterogeneous source systems, sensitive data and multiple delivery partners.
  • Professional architect accreditation such as IASA CITA-P/CITA-D, Open CA or equivalent is advantageous.
  • Certification or demonstrable experience in TOGAF, cloud architecture, information security, HL7/FHIR or openEHR is advantageous.
  • Direct experience implementing or governing Rhapsody at enterprise scale.
  • Experience with national shared-care-record, EHR, health-information-exchange or clinical data-platform programmes.
  • Experience implementing openEHR repositories or Better EHR platform solutions.
  • Experience with Azure integration and data services, including API Management, Service Bus, Event Grid, Functions, Data Factory or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise master patient index, health identifiers, terminology services and record-linkage processes.
  • Experience developing automated interoperability and conformance testing.
  • Public-sector procurement, vendor negotiation and complex sourcing experience.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strategic thinking combined with strong technical depth and attention to implementation detail.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and trade-off assessment skills.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring capability.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, facilitation and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across clinical, technical, operational and executive groups.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, competing priorities and delivery pressure without compromising quality or safety.
  • A pragmatic and outcome-focused approach, with the ability to distinguish essential governance from unnecessary process.
