Job description
Summary

The successful candidate will work within the Continence Care Research and Development to demonstrate the benefits of Hollister’s current intermittent catheter portfolio as well as design next-generation products. We are seeking candidates with a background in cell biology to understand the impact of a product’s materials on urethral physiology and health. A working knowledge of microbiologic techniques is also a plus as prevention of urinary tract infections is a critical need for intermittent catheter users. The candidate will help develop clinically relevant test methods to understand urethral biology and infection prevention. The successful candidate will be capable of interfacing with senior management within the research, marketing and commercial organizations to support product claims, educate customers and develop new products.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Establishing a urethral biology / health expertise within Hollister
  • Organically develop or partner with external collaborators to develop clinically relevant tests methods as they pertain to urethral health and prevention of urinary tract infections.
  • Researching new technologies and developing them into solutions that drive new product platforms.
  • Becoming the subject matter expert with respect to the underlying physiological mechanisms critical to maintaining urethral health.
  • Providing technical support to New Product Development, Marketing, Sales, Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Managing project schedules, conducting product and project risk analysis, and ensuring successful and timely completion of project activities.
  • Preparing justifications for financial authorization and effectively communicate same
  • Reviewing vendors’ product offerings to assess their suitability for use in future products.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Leading and driving cell biology and technology development projects both as an individual contributor and as a project team leader.
  • Identifying and developing new technologies and biological indicators of urethral health.
  • Managing timelines, budget and performance expectations for assigned technology development projects.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of new technologies into commercial products.
  • Sourcing, selecting materials, components, vendors and partners and the evaluation of same
  • Working with patent counsel to support patentability/infringement searches and preparation of patent application
Qualifications

Academic/Credentials/Certifications

  • Minimum of Level 8 Degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical Science / Engineering or Microbiology.
  • A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Biomedical Science / Engineering with a focus cell biology is a distinct advantage.

Length of experience

  • B.S. +8 years / MS +6yrs / PhD +3yrs relevant industry experience preferably in medical devices.

Specialized skills/technical knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of cell biology and biotechnology with respect to the urinary system
  • Innovative/Creative Thinker – must have a demonstrated ability to conduct exploration of subject areas for novel concepts and approaches
  • Experience dealing with medical personnel and reducing their feedback to meaningful device concepts
