Job summary

Merck Life Science Ireland in Cork seeks an Automation and Controls Specialist to design, program and implement control strategies that optimize manufacturing processes using PLCs, SCADA, DCS and HMIs. You will lead or support CapEx projects, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and act as Site SME for automation, driving improvements while ensuring CE compliance and GMP standards.

Qualifications

BEng degree in electrical/electronic/automation engineering.
7+ years in an FDA or GMP automation environment.
Experience with Robotic/pick & place machines.
Knowledge of servo drives and motion control systems.
Experience with PLCs including Rockwell and Siemens.
Familiarity with CE marking and conformity reviews.
Knowledge of automation network protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
Ability to lead or support capital projects.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, install, modify and test PLCs, robotics, vision systems and SCADA.
Repair, fault-find and troubleshoot automation issues in live production.
Lead or support project documentation (URS, FDS, FAT, SAT).
Act as Site SME for on-site automation systems and equipment.
Identify and implement process-improvement tools and techniques.
Provide on-call automation support as part of a rota.
Coach technicians and junior engineers on problem-solving and standards.
Ensure compliance with EU directives and CE standards.
