Job summary

Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited is seeking a Principal Engineer to own the CloudWatch metrics platform's technical vision. You will guide the distributed query engine, storage tiers, and ingestion/compaction pipelines, shaping OpenTelemetry-driven evolution at scale in Dublin.

You will balance latency, cost, durability, and scale, raise the technical bar for the Dublin team, and drive multi-year strategy across AWS services and Omni experiences.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 10+ years designing and architecting large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with high-performance storage, time-series/metrics systems, and query engines.
• Ability to influence architecture across teams and mentor engineers.
• Familiarity with Prometheus and OpenTelemetry ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Set multi-year technical vision and architecture for the CloudWatch metrics platform.
• Own design decisions on correctness, availability, performance, and cost.
• Lead evolution toward adaptive ingestion and OpenTelemetry foundation across Amazon.
• Influence roadmap across AWS customers, internal teams, and Omni experiences.
• Raise engineering bar via design reviews, operational excellence, and issue fixes.
• Mentor senior engineers and represent CloudWatch in AWS architecture forums.
