Job summary

Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited in Dublin, Ireland seeks a Principal Engineer to set the technical vision for the Lambda execution environment and drive its architecture and performance at scale.

You will own long-term strategy, mentor senior engineers, and lead coordination with multiple Lambda and AWS teams while delivering secure, low-latency multi-tenant systems that support millions of invocations daily.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in CS/Engineering.
• Extensive experience with virtualization and systems programming.
• Strong leadership on cross-functional technical projects.
• 12+ years of professional software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of Linux kernel internals, scheduling, memory management, and namespaces/cgroups.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term technical strategy for the Lambda execution environment.
• Architect and build systems for execution environment management, cold start optimization, and resource scheduling at scale.
• Write production code in Rust and C for critical components.
• Lead design and evolution of microVM orchestration with Firecracker and Linux interfaces.
• Drive cross-team technical alignment with other Lambda teams and adjacent AWS groups.
• Mentor and develop senior engineers, raising the engineering bar.
• Represent the Lambda Experience team in senior forums across AWS.
