Job summary

Workday is seeking a Principal‑level API Architect in Product Engineering to lead our API strategy for agentic and integration‑heavy scenarios. You will own the API architecture vision, set standards across API design, and partner with engineering and product leaders to implement them.

The role requires deep hands‑on experience in designing and building end‑to‑end products, with strong OO modeling, and proficiency in Java/TypeScript/Python across REST, GraphQL, SOAP, and Swagger/OpenAPI.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building backend systems and APIs.
• 7+ years software engineering with OO design concepts.
• 5+ years designing API endpoints at scale.
• Experience with Java/TypeScript/Python for web services.

Responsibilities

• Define the API architecture, standards, and review processes for Product Engineering.
• Shape API roadmaps with product/platform leaders and prioritize API needs.
• Design product‑oriented API endpoints, data models, and service boundaries.
• Establish API standards including OpenAPI guidelines, auth, pagination, error handling and versioning.
