Job summary

Eurofins Scientific is seeking a Laboratory Technician to prepare and analyse customer food samples with a focus on efficiency, quality, and accuracy. A training plan will be provided as part of the technician’s development.

This is a full-time role (39 hours weekly) with shifts Monday to Thursday 11:45–20:00 and Friday 11:30–20:00. Initial training shifts run Monday–Friday 10:00–18:15; no prior lab experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food samples for analysis.
• Become competent in laboratory work practices and requirements.
• Familiarise with laboratory test methods and SOPs.
• Ensure client samples are tested on time and notify Senior Technician/Lab Manager of delays.
• Log samples accurately into the system.
• Complete documentation on time, accurately and legibly.
• Check weights and temperatures per procedures.
• Ensure laboratory is stocked with pipettes and supplies.
• Maintain compliance with 17025 standards in-house procedures.
• Keep training sheets up to date and assist with training when possible.
• Adhere to safety, housekeeping and quality standards and notify management of discrepancies.
• Keep the laboratory area clean and tidy.
• Clean laboratory equipment (fridges, incubators, water baths).
• Ensure reagents and media are within expiry dates.
• File documentation relating to customer samples.
• Participate in proficiency testing as instructed.
• Provide cover for colleagues and weekend rota.
• Be flexible to work in any area of the business as required.

The role of Laboratory Technicians is to prepare and analyse customer food samples keeping in mind efficiency, quality and accuracy standards as required by the company. Upon commencement of employment a training plan will be initiated for the Technician and will be discussed with the Technician as part of their development plan.

This is a full time role working 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 11:45 till 20:00 and Friday 11:30 till 20:00.

Training shift for the first few weeks will be Monday to Friday 10:00 till 18:15.

No laboratory experience required, full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of food samples for analysis.
• Become competent in the laboratory work practices and requirements that facilitate analysis.
• Become familiar with all relevant laboratory test methods and procedures i.e. SOP’s.
• Ensure that all client samples are tested on time, and notify a Senior Technician / Laboratory Manager of any time delays.
• Accurately log samples into the system in a timely manner.
• Complete all documentation on time, accurately and legibly.
• Check weights and temperatures in line with company procedures.
• Ensure that the laboratory is stocked with pipettes, autoclave bags etc.
• Ensure Compliance to the 17025 standard at all times by adhering to the in house quality procedures provided.
• Keep their training sheets up to date and initiate training where possible when able to do so.
• Adhere to all company standards in the area of safety, housekeeping and quality, notifying a Senior Technician or Laboratory Manager of any discrepancies.
• Keep the laboratory area clean and tidy.
• Clean laboratory equipment as required, including fridges, incubators water baths etc.
• Ensure that all sanitiser bottles and beakers are filled and changed regularly and the correct control labels are attached to them.
• Ensure that there are no reagents or media available in the laboratory that have past their expiry date.
• Ensure that all documentation relating to customer samples is filed.
• Take part in proficiency testing as instructed by a Senior Technician.
• Provide cover for other members of staff as required and participating in the Weekend Rota.
• Be flexible to work in any area of the business as is required.
