Job summary

The Kid Connection program at Farmington Public Schools seeks a dedicated community education assistant/instructor substitute to provide guidance, enrichment, and supervision for students aged 5–12. You will support students within the program in a consistent, positive style and help maintain a safe, engaging environment.

Responsibilities include implementing program philosophy, planning developmentally appropriate activities, coordinating schedules, mentoring aides, and communicating openly

Qualifications

• Experience with school-age children (preferred).
• Ability to work with children ages 5–12.
• Ability to supervise staff and children.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of child development needs.
• Ability to mediate and solve problems.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Align with Kid Connection program policies, CCAP guidelines and manuals.
• Maintain a safe and healthy environment following health procedures.
• Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities; provide a written monthly schedule.
• Assist in developing environment, curriculum and daily schedule for child needs.
• Promote positive attitude aligned with Farmington Area Schools and Community Education.
• Support Aides and delegate tasks to support daily activities.
• Participate in site staff meetings and coaching sessions.
• Engage with adults, children, and staff following guidelines.
• Maintain open communication between staff, school, parents and community.
• Teach social skills through planned curriculum and positive reinforcement.

Job Summary

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Responsibilities

• Understands and implements the Kid Connection program philosophy, policies and procedures, aligning with the Staff and Parent Handbooks, School Age Quality Standards, and CCAP guidelines
• Will maintain a safe and healthy environment for self, other adults, and children following program health and safety procedures
• Plans, prepares, and leads developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive activities using Minnesota School Age Core Competency guidelines and the National Afterschool Association Standards for Quality School-Age Care. Will provide a written schedule and calendar of daily activities for the month.
• Assists in development of environment, curriculum and daily schedule that allows children to assume responsibility for successful peer interactions and choices and that meets the interest and developmental needs of each child.
• Promotes and maintains a positive attitude that supports the philosophy and mission of Kid Connection school age care and the strategic plans of Farmington Area Schools and Community Education.
• Provides support and guidance when working with Aides and is able to delegate appropriate tasks and assignments that support the classroom and daily schedule of activities.
• Participates in regular site staff meetings, coaching and positive role modeling, related to the Kid connection program.
• Actively engages with adults, children, and staff members following the guidelines of Farmington Area Schools and Community Education
• Promotes a positive image of the program by maintaining open and positive communication between Kid Connection staff, school staff, parents and community.
• Teaches and demonstrates appropriate social skills to children through planned curriculum, role modeling, and positive reinforcement.
