Timoney Group in Navan, Co. Meath, invites applications for an Intern Electrical Engineer starting January 2027. You'll join our design teams on internal and client projects, contributing to hybrid vehicle electrical systems and powertrain development.

The role requires studying Electrical Engineering and experience with MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and CAD tools. You will help design circuits, wiring harnesses, and vehicle networks under the guidance of the Head of Electromechanical Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Experience coding in MATLAB/Simulink or C/C++.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Visio.
  • Good problem-solving and design skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse vehicle performance using MATLAB, Simulink, Adams or equivalent and calibrate control parameters.
  • Determine propulsion and power distribution requirements and select components (inverters, motors, power converters, batteries, engines).
  • Electrify mechanical driveline systems including axles, steering and suspension.
  • Design high/low-voltage circuits using 3D or schematic modelling software.
  • Design wiring harnesses for conventional and hybrid driveline systems.
  • Select electrical components and ensure installation/operation meet standards and customer requirements.
  • Work on vehicle CAN networks and hardware signalling.
  • Perform other tasks as designated by the manager.

Due to continued expansion, including exciting electrical and hybrid technology projects, Timoney is now looking hire an Intern Electrical Engineer to join our team designing next generation off road hybrid electric vehicles.


The Role

Timoney is seeking an Intern Electrical Engineer to work as part of our design teams on internal and client projects. We develop all aspects of vehicle suspension, driveline, and powertrain systems. Timoney operates hybrid working policy.


The successful candidate will be expected to assist the design team to:



  • Analyse vehicle performance in MATLAB, Simulink, Adams (or equivalent) and calibrate vehicle control parameters.

  • Determine vehicle propulsion and power distribution requirements and select appropriate components including inverters, motors, power converters, batteries and engines.

  • Electrify traditionally mechanical driveline systems including axles, steering and suspension systems.

  • Design high and low-voltage circuits based on customer specifications using 3D or schematic modelling software.

  • Design wiring harnesses for conventional and hybrid axle and driveline systems.

  • Select electrical components and ensure that their installation and operation conform to standards and customer requirements.

  • Work on vehicle communication networks including CAN and hardware signalling.

  • Other tasks as designated by your manager.


The Person


  • Currently studying a degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experience in developing software through MATLAB, Simulink or C, C++

  • Experience using one or more of the major CAD systems (SolidWorks, Visio).

  • Strong design and problem-solving skills.

  • Motivated self-starter who will also be able to operate in a team environment.

  • An interest in vehicles and product development.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to work closely with colleagues across the Engineer, Manufacturing and Quality teams
