Job summary

Collins McNicholas Recruitment is seeking an Installation and Commissioning Engineer for a Cork-based global engineering and automation technology company. You will design, commission and validate machine vision solutions and travel up to 60% (UK/Europe) to customer sites or machine builders.

Responsibilities include liaising with customers, delivering PLC/electrical/software deployments, and ensuring GMP-compliant documentation while collaborating with Sales and Quality teams.

Qualifications

• A third-level engineering degree in electrical/electronic, computing or automation.
• Minimum five years of relevant industrial automation experience, preferably with vision systems.
• Working knowledge of PLC programming (Allen Bradley preferred; Siemens knowledge helpful).
• Excellent written/spoken communication with strong attention to detail.
• Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites nationally and internationally.

• Design, install, commission and validate vision, electrical, software and automation elements at customer sites or machine builders.
• Operate within client SOPs and generate GMP-aligned documentation when required.
• Liaise with Quality to ensure compliance with solution requirements.
• Provide engineering input to Sales during URS and quotation phases.
• Feedback deployment experiences to improve solutions and maintainability.
• Collaborate with engineering to review new vision and third-party solutions and make recommendations.

Job description

We are working with global engineering and automation technology company based in Cork, working primarily with leading pharma, biotech, medical device and other highly regulated manufacturing companies. We are looking for a Installation and Commissioning Engineer to join the team. Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, the Installation and Commissioning Engineer will be involved in the design, commission & validation of machine vision related solutions. (60% travel, mainly UK and Europe and as required)

Responsibilities

• Liaise with customers to ensure proper understanding of the customer requirements.
• Design, development, installation, commissioning & validation of the vision, electrical, software and automation based elements of the solution at the customer’s site or machine builder facility.
• Working entirely within the client standard operating procedures for such projects.
• Generate documentation to GMP requirements (URS, FDS, FAT, IQ/OQ etc) when required.
• Liaise with internal Quality team to ensure full compliance with solution requirements.
• Provide engineering expertise to internal Sales Department at URS and project quotation phase.
• Provision of feedback to the engineering team in relation to deployment experience of integrated vision and software solutions.
• Working with colleagues in the engineering team to continually improve the deployment capability of solutions as well as focusing on increasing their maintainability.
• Review of new vision and related third party engineering solutions as they are available in the market place and where appropriate, make recommendations on such solutions.

Requirements

• Must have a relevant third level qualification in an engineering discipline, preferably a BEng in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a BSc in Computing / Software Engineering or a BEng in Automation Engineering.
• Must have at minimum five years relevant industrial experience in an automation role preferably with vision systems.
• Must demonstrate a working knowledge of PLC programming experience, preferably with Allen Bradley based systems and some knowledge of Siemens based systems.
• Must demonstrate excellent written and spoken communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Must demonstrate a working knowledge of a CAD design package, preferably AutoCAD or Solidworks.
• Must demonstrate excellent problem solving skills with a can do attitude.
• Possess a full clean driver’s license and a willingness to travel to customers sites nationally and internationally.
• The ideal candidate should demonstrate an interest in programming and software systems preferably using C#.
• The ideal candidate should have a knowledge of SQL and working with relational databases.
