Job summary

Abbott in Ireland is seeking an automation software engineer to join the Engineering division in Clonmel. The role focuses on PLC, HMI, robotics, and vision inspection programming across automated systems, ensuring software integrity and validation readiness for manufacturing lines.

The candidate will collaborate with equipment engineers and quality teams, drive process improvements, and stay ahead with new automation technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline.
• 5 years’ experience in Pharma, Medical device, Semiconductor, FMCG industry.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PLC, HMI, robotics, vision and automated systems programming.
• Liaise with equipment engineers to specify controls system requirements.
• Review and supervise external vendor software development with proper annotations.
• Liaise on testing protocols to ensure software integrity and FAT/IQ/OQ/PQ readiness.
• Identify process, productivity and quality improvements via control or inspection systems.
• Coordinate introduction of new automation technologies and cross‑functional communication.
• Take ownership of software revision control for automation assets.
