Job summary

ALS Minerals operates a European hub lab in Loughrea, Co. Galway, and seeks ICP Technicians for its ICP Department. You will work with AAS, ICPAES and ICPMS instruments, following established methods and ensuring quality standards.

The role includes rotating day, evening and night shifts after training, with a fixed evening shift and occasional night rotation. Full-time 40 hours weekly, 12-month fixed term with potential permanent contract.

Qualifications

• Science degree required; chemistry background highly advantageous.
• Previous lab experience is advantageous though not essential.
• Rotating day/evening/night shifts once trained.
• Fixed evening shift (16:00-12:30) with occasional night rotation.

Responsibilities

• Operate analytical instruments such as AAS, ICPAES, ICPMS or similar.
• Follow analytical methods and published procedures.
• Ensure time-managed routine laboratory activities meet quality targets.
• Identify anomalies and report to Supervisor.
• Maintain housekeeping and manage consumables.
• Calibrate and maintain equipment to keep it fit for purpose.
• Complete records per ISO 17025 and INAB requirements.

Job description

ALS Minerals is internationally recognised as the global leader in providing geochemical sample preparation, analytical procedures and data management solutions, with its European hub lab based in Loughrea, Co. Galway.

We are currently seeking applications for ICP Technicians to join our ICP Department.

• Undertake laboratory activities which may include but are not limited to the operation of analytical instruments such as AAS, ICPAES, ICPMS or other as applicable.
• Follow applicable analytical methods and published procedures without unapproved deviation or error.
• Apply time management skills so that routine laboratory activities are conducted to relevant quality standards while throughput targets are met.
• Possess troubleshooting skills to be able to identify analytical test result anomalies for sample type or behaviour and report these anomalies to the Supervisor.
• Perform housekeeping duties as and when required to applicable standards.
• Manage consumables so that inventory is not exhausted at any time.
• Appropriate management of equipment/instrument maintenance and/or calibration to ensure that equipment/instruments remain fit for purpose.
• Complete all required records as per ISO 17025, INAB requirements and the laboratory’s quality management system

Experience & Expertise:

Previous lab experience will be an advantage but not essential.

Qualification & Training:

A science degree is required, with a chemistry background being highly advantageous.

This position will be a rotating position between day, evening and night shift once fully trained.

or

There is a fixed evening (16:00-12:30) with occasional night (12:00-8:30) shift rotation available.

For training purposes, the successful candidate will train on either the day or evening shift and will not be required to rotate.

This is a full time 40 hour per week position.

This is initially a 12-month fixed term contract, however, successful candidates will be offered a permanent contract after one year.
