Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Hydraulic Modeller to shape flood resilience across Ireland. You will develop hydraulic models for major flood risk projects, collaborate with water and public sector clients, and help deliver innovative solutions to reduce flood risk.

Qualifications

  • Degree, Master's, or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience developing 1D/2D hydraulic models for river/urban/coastal flooding.
  • Knowledge of Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM, or HEC-RAS.
  • Hydrological assessment experience and ability to review modelling outputs.

  • Lead 1D/2D modelling projects and review outputs for clients.

As a Hydraulic Water Modeller, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering some of the largest Flood Risk Management programmes in the UK and Ireland. Working on major frameworks with leading water and public sector clients, you'll help develop innovative solutions that reduce flood risk, improve water resilience, and create a lasting positive impact for future generations.

Joining our growing Water Catchment Management team, you'll work across the full project lifecycle, from strategic planning and modelling studies through to detailed design and delivery.

You'll help develop and apply innovative hydraulic modelling solutions, including leading software such as Flood Modeller, helping clients make better decisions and deliver successful outcomes.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll contribute to projects covering:

  • Reservoir safety and design
  • Coastal, fluvial, and urban flood modelling
  • Surface water management and flood strategy development
  • Flood mapping and catchment studies
  • Developing, calibrating, interpreting, and reviewing 1D and 1D-2D hydraulic models using industry-standard software including Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks and HEC-RAS
  • Analysing and interpreting data using GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and MapInfo
  • Applying analytical methods using Python, R, or similar tools
  • Producing and reviewing high-quality technical reports and modelling outputs
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional client outcomes
  • Driving innovation by challenging conventional approaches and identifying smarter solutions
  • Supporting technical assurance, peer reviews, and quality checking activities
  • Mentoring and developing junior team members to strengthen team capability

Here's what you'll need

  • Degree, Master's, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Mathematics, or a related discipline
  • Experience developing and applying 1D and 2D hydraulic models for river, urban, or coastal flooding projects
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic modelling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM, or HEC-RAS
  • Experience undertaking hydrological assessments and calculations
  • Ability to review and assure technical modelling outputs
  • A collaborative mindset with a passion for knowledge sharing and team development
  • Working towards or already holding Chartered status with ICE, CIWEM, or an equivalent professional body
