Job summary

Nicholas O’Dwyer Ltd seeks a Hydraulic Modeller – Water to join our Water team in Ireland. The role focuses on water distribution network modelling using Synergi Liquid, with UK and international projects, supporting development, calibration and analysis of hydraulic models to inform planning and operations.

The ideal candidate holds a civil or environmental engineering degree, 3–7 years of modelling experience, and strong analytical and reporting skills, with familiarity in ArcGIS or QGIS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3–7 years’ experience in hydraulic modelling, ideally with a focus on water distribution networks.
  • Experience using hydraulic modelling software such as Synergi Liquid, EPANET, or similar.
  • Familiarity with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Understanding of water network behavior including demand, headloss, leakage, and operational controls.
  • Experience handling asset, flow, pressure, and demand data for model development and validation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience contributing to model QA/QC and governance.
  • Desirable: experience with Uisce Éireann or Irish/UK standards; valid driving licence.

  • Support continuous improvement and innovation in modelling practices.

About The Role

We are seeking a Hydraulic Modeller – Water to join our growing Water team in Ireland. The role will focus primarily on water distribution network modelling, with particular emphasis on Uisce Éireann projects using Synergi Liquid. The successful candidate will also support the delivery of hydraulic modelling and network analysis for water supply systems for projects across Ireland, the UK, and internationally. You will support the development, calibration and analysis of hydraulic models to inform planning, design, and operational decision‑making. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced modeller looking to deepen their expertise in utility‑scale water networks while working within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, calibrate, and verify hydraulic models of water distribution networks using Synergi Liquid and related industry tools (e.g. EPANET).
  • Support optioneering and feasibility studies, including assessment of growth scenarios, constraints, and operational strategies.
  • Assist in the planning, programming, and coordination of modelling activities on assigned projects.
  • Undertake network analysis to support assessment, design, optimization, and operational improvements of water systems.
  • Participate in the scoping, procurement, and coordination of field surveys and data collection required to inform model development (e.g. flow and pressure monitoring).
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and model outputs in accordance with client standards (including Uisce Éireann where applicable).
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and multidisciplinary teams to integrate modelling outputs into project delivery.
  • Support the review and interpretation of asset data, GIS data, and operational data for modelling purposes.
  • Participate in client meetings and contribute to technical discussions as required.
  • Support continuous improvement and innovation in modelling practices and tools.
  • Keep up to date with developments in hydraulic modelling software and best practices.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required, in line with the evolving needs of the role and the business.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Typically, 3–7 years’ experience in hydraulic modelling, ideally with a focus on water distribution networks.
  • Experience using hydraulic modelling software such as Synergi Liquid, EPANET, or similar.

  • Understanding of water network behavior including demand and demand allocation, pressure and headloss, leakage and background losses, and operational controls and boundary conditions.
  • Experience handling and interpreting asset, flow, pressure, and demand data for model development and validation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience contributing to model QA/QC and model governance processes.
  • Experience working with Uisce Éireann or similar utility clients is desirable as is knowledge of Irish or UK water utility modelling standards and practices.
  • Full clean driving licence, with willingness to travel to project sites as required.
