Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking an HR Advisor to act as a trusted consultant to managers and employees across EMEA, delivering practical HR solutions while ensuring policy compliance and mitigating people-related risk.

You will collaborate with HR Partners, Talent Acquisition, and other Centres of Excellence to support employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an HR Advisory, Employee Relations, HR Business Partnering, or HR Consulting role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and associated people-related risk.
  • Experience advising managers on employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and performance management.
  • Ability to manage complex and sensitive employee issues while balancing business and employee needs.
  • Experience supporting stakeholders across multiple countries or jurisdictions is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with managers and employees on a broad range of HR and employee relations matters.
  • Provide guidance on performance management, disciplinary matters, grievances, workplace investigations, and dispute resolution.
  • Support organisational change initiatives and advise on the people impacts of business decisions.
  • Interpret and apply employment legislation, company policies, and HR programs to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Act as a liaison between managers, HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and other HR functions to ensure a coordinated approach to people matters.
  • Support the delivery and implementation of HR initiatives, including performance management, talent development, employee engagement, and workforce planning.
  • Coach and advise managers on best practices to foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to support workforce needs and maintain a strong and diverse talent pipeline.
  • Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, efficiency, and employee experience.

About the Role

The HR Advisor acts as a trusted consultant to managers and employees, providing HR guidance and support across EMEA. The role partners closely with leaders to ensure the effective application of HR policies, procedures, and programs while supporting business objectives and mitigating people-related risk. Working collaboratively with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and other Centres of Excellence, the HR Advisor helps deliver practical HR solutions, supports employee relations matters, and promotes a positive employee experience. The role requires strong judgement, employment law knowledge, and the ability to manage sensitive and complex situations with professionalism and discretion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with managers and employees on a broad range of HR and employee relations matters.

  • Handle highly sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
Skills & Experience
  • Experience in an HR Advisory, Employee Relations, HR Business Partnering, or HR Consulting role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and associated people-related risk.
  • Experience advising managers on employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and performance management.
  • Ability to manage complex and sensitive employee issues while balancing business and employee needs.
  • Experience supporting stakeholders across multiple countries or jurisdictions is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Degree qualification and/or relevant HR certification preferred.

Work Authorization
