Orwell Healthcare has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Host, to join our Kitchen Team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop within our organisation.

Our Kitchen operates seven days a week from 07.00 to 18.00. This role requires a flexible shift roster over seven days.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the Kitchen Team, reporting directly to the Head Chef. You will work with the clinical team in terms of nutritional requirements and special diets, statutory regulations in relation to food preparation (HACCP records and training and Liaising with EHO and DCC FOG), Health and Safety Regulations and the HIQA standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Always maintain confidentiality of Orwell Healthcare information and residents.
  • Assist in ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and all preventative and recording procedures are applied.
  • Notify the management of any resident complaints/concerns so they can be dealt with efficiently and effectively.
  • Be aware of the security of Orwell Healthcare always, both in terms of access to the Orwell Healthcare property and the residents’ property. Ensure all windows/doors/fridges/stores are locked before you leave the property.
  • Assist when needed with the transportation of food and goods to any other premises belonging to Orwell.
Duties of the Host include but not limited to:
  • Breakfast, lunch and tea trolley delivery. Re-stocking of kitchenettes.
  • Serve residents’ meals as required.
  • Empty and clean waste bins and replace rubbish sacks when necessary, using Green approach.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene throughout the kitchen.
  • Clean additional equipment as scheduled.
  • Assist the Kitchen Porter with deliveries.
  • Update HACCP records.
  • Undertake any other duties as instructed. This could include:
  • Take deliveries in as and when needed
  • Assisting with stocktaking
  • Assisting in the café as and when required
  • Delivering stock and meals to the floors
  • Reading order sheets and preparing the Bain Marie’s for deliveries.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • HACCP trained
  • At least 1 year experience working in a busy kitchen in all areas
  • Willingness to work hard and be actively involved in the business
  • Ability to work flexibly under pressure with a positive attitude
  • Approachable with excellent people skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • High level of initiative
  • Good level of verbal and written English
  • Nursing home experience is not essential
