Job summary

Elk Recruitment’s client in Carlow is looking for an experienced HGV Lead Mechanic to join their growing team. This is a permanent, full-time role in Carlow offering €25 - €30 per hour and a 45-hour week.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an HGV mechanic with strong knowledge of heavy vehicle systems.
• Previous managerial experience within a vehicle maintenance or automotive workshop environment.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate staff.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues.
• Effective communication skills to liaise with team members, suppliers, and management.

Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day operations of the HGV garage ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs.
• Leading, mentoring, and motivating a team of mechanics and apprentices to achieve high standards of workmanship and safety.
• Coordinating vehicle service schedules to minimize downtime and optimize fleet availability.
• Inspecting and evaluating vehicles to diagnose mechanical problems and determine required repairs.
• Maintaining accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
