Our client, Portlaoise Logistics Limited, based in Portlaoise, Co. Laois, is currently seeking Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Drivers for immediate start for their facility in Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

Role Requirements
  • 1-3 years’ of previous experience as an HGV Driver is required.
  • Applicants must hold an equivalent category to a category CE or C1E driving licence identified through a mutual recognition agreement between the Road Safety Authority and the appropriate regulatory authority in another jurisdiction.
  • There are no minimum academic requirements. Further training will be provided on-the-job as required.
General Duties / Responsibilities
  • To safely operate HGVs, including loading and unloading cargo.
  • To deliver goods to specified locations, ensuring they arrive on time and in good condition.
  • To conduct daily vehicle checks and routine maintenance reporting to ensure roadworthiness.
  • To comply with all driving regulations, including EU and Irish transport laws (e.g., tachograph and driver's hours regulations).
  • To maintain accurate delivery records, including delivery notes and logbooks.
  • To communicate professionally with customers, dispatchers, and team members to resolve delivery issues.
  • To follow safety protocols for transporting hazardous materials (if applicable).
  • To ensure the security of cargo during transit.
Essential knowledge, skills and competencies
  • Essential knowledge includes effective perception of the transport environment, the mechanical components of vehicles, and road traffic laws.
  • Further essential knowledge includes road transport legislation, types of cargo, and vehicle cargo capacity.
  • Essential skills include anticipation of foreseeable problems on the road, control of the performance of the vehicle, and interpretation of traffic signals.
  • Further essential competencies include maintenance of concentration for long periods, operation of GPS systems, and reading of maps.
  • Applicants must be competent to parallel park vehicles, practice emergency stops, and supervise the loading & unloading of cargo.
  • Applicants must have experience driving a cargo truck in both urban and rural environments.
  • 1-3 years’ of previous relevant experience as a HGV Driver is required.
  • Applicants must hold an equivalent category to a category CE or C1E driving licence identified through a mutual recognition agreement between the Road Safety Authority and the appropriate regulatory authority in another jurisdiction.
Remuneration and Work Details

Annual Remuneration: €34,000.00; Pay rate €16.77 per hour
