Job summary

BLARNEY NURSING & RETIREMENT HOME LIMITED in Ireland is seeking an Experienced Care Assistant to support residents with daily living activities, personal care, mobility, feeding, and social engagement under nurse supervision.

You will monitor health, document changes, assist with continence care, medication rounds when trained, maintain a clean, safe environment, and uphold residents' privacy, dignity, and rights in line with HIQA standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding
• Support with mobility and transfers (using hoists, wheelchairs, walking aids)
• Maintain residents' privacy, dignity, and comfort at all times
• Monitor skin integrity and report changes
• Daily Living Support: help residents with meals and hydration, keep rooms tidy, bed making
• Observation and Reporting: record changes, monitor vital signs when trained, complete care plans and documentation
• Clinical Support under Nurse Supervision: continence care and catheter/stoma management, assist with medication rounds when trained
• Collect samples as directed, infection control measures
• Emotional and Social Support: empathy, encouragement, social engagement
• Follow HIQA standards, safeguarding policies, confidentiality, and participate in training

Job Description

Personal CareAssist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.Support with mobility and transfers (using hoists, wheelchairs, walking aids).Maintain residents' privacy, dignity, and comfort at all times.Monitor skin integrity and report changes (pressure areas, bruises, redness). 2. Daily Living SupportHelp residents with meals and hydration, including feeding if required.Keep rooms tidy, assist with bed making, and ensure a clean, safe environment.Support residents in social activities and companionship to promote well-being. 3. Observation and ReportingRecord and report any changes in residents' condition to the nurse.Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) when trained.Complete daily care plans, charts, and documentation accurately. 4. Clinical Support (Under Nurse Supervision)Assist with continence care and catheter/stoma management.Help with medication rounds (only when trained and authorised).Collect samples (urine, stool) as directed.Support in infection control measures. 5. Emotional and Social SupportOffer empathy, reassurance, and emotional care.Encourage residents to maintain independence and self-esteem.Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the healthcare team. 6.
