Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer role with a large construction company in the west of Ireland.

Your new company

The successful Health & Safety officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, environmental, and quality are maintained on their construction sites. This role requires a proactive approach to risk management and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors. Role will be based in the Galway / Mayo region.

Responsibilities and key activities include:
  1. Ensuring safety is a priority
  2. Maintaining a healthy safety record and ensuring the company ethos of safety is positively filtered down to all on-site personnel
  3. Monitoring, evaluating, and acting upon any health and safety conditions injurious to health and safety, and promoting improvement and prevention through advice, education, and enforcement of legislation
  4. Advising and assisting the SHEQ Manager in staff safety development and training needs assessment
  5. Assisting in company health and safety audits and attending meetings as required
  6. Preparing method statements, risk assessments, and updating safety statements
  7. Monitoring and contributing to company policies
Desired Skills and Experience:
  1. Proven track record within the construction industry on accident-free sites
  2. Experience with ISO 9001, 14001, 18001, and SafeT Cert is an advantage
  3. Knowledge of H&S legislation and procedures, with experience in maintaining company policies and monitoring legislative updates
  4. Previous experience with drafting tender documentation and prequalifications is a plus
  5. A team player with a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity
  6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
  7. Strong organizational skills and proficiency in common computer software
