We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer role with a large construction company in the west of Ireland.

The successful Health & Safety officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, environmental, and quality are maintained on their construction sites. This role requires a proactive approach to risk management and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors. Role will be based in the Galway / Mayo region.
Responsibilities and key activities include:
- Ensuring safety is a priority
- Maintaining a healthy safety record and ensuring the company ethos of safety is positively filtered down to all on-site personnel
- Monitoring, evaluating, and acting upon any health and safety conditions injurious to health and safety, and promoting improvement and prevention through advice, education, and enforcement of legislation
- Advising and assisting the SHEQ Manager in staff safety development and training needs assessment
- Assisting in company health and safety audits and attending meetings as required
- Preparing method statements, risk assessments, and updating safety statements
- Monitoring and contributing to company policies
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Proven track record within the construction industry on accident-free sites
- Experience with ISO 9001, 14001, 18001, and SafeT Cert is an advantage
- Knowledge of H&S legislation and procedures, with experience in maintaining company policies and monitoring legislative updates
- Previous experience with drafting tender documentation and prequalifications is a plus
- A team player with a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency in common computer software
Qualifications and Experience:
- Professional H&S Degree qualification
- At least 4 years of experience in the construction industry
- In-depth knowledge of Irish H&S legislation
- Safepass and Manual Handling certifications
