Role Summary:

The Health & Safety Officer - Pharmacies will assist in developing, implementing, and continuously improving environmental, health, and safety programs within the organisation, primarily in the retail business. This role involves supporting compliance with regulatory requirements, conducting safety training, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance Support:

  • Assist in ensuring the pharmacy maintains compliance with all EHS regulations.

Reporting:

  • Prepare and present reports on health and safety activities, including inspection findings and improvement recommendations.

Training and Awareness:

  • Support the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees.
  • Participate in safety meetings and workshops to promote EHS awareness.

Inspections and Audits:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of the pharmacy and equipment to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation and follow-up of internal and external audits.
  • Support the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify root causesand develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting on environmental performance, including waste management and pollution prevention initiatives.
  • Help maintain documentation related to hazardous materials and waste management.

Data Management:

  • Maintain and update EHS databases and records, including safety data sheets (SDS) and training records.
  • Analyse data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Program Development:

  • Develop and implement EHS policies and programs tailored to the pharmacy environment.
  • Assist in promoting a safety culture and environmental stewardship within the organisation.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience:

  • Experience in an EHS role or related field is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with EHS regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).

Skills:

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and EHS software systems.
  • A full clean driver's licence is required as travel to various company sites is essential.

Certifications:

- Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent) are a plus.

  • This position may require occasional travel to various company sites.
  • The role may involve exposure to various environmental conditions and safety hazards.
