Job Overview:

Cental Engineering is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This role is ideal for a motivated professional with a strong foundation in health and safety, looking to build their career within a supportive and dynamic EHS team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the company’s EHS Management System in compliance with relevant legislation, standards (e.g. ISO 45001), and best practices.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across operations and support functions.
  • Support the investigation of incidents and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through training, toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and employee engagement.
  • Maintain and update EHS documentation including policies, procedures, reports, registers, and records.
  • Monitor compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements, ensuring timely reporting and follow-up on non-conformances.
  • Assist with contractor safety management including permit-to-work, inductions, and audits.
  • Support environmental compliance activities as required, including waste management, chemical handling, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Stay current with changes in health, safety, and environmental legislation and share relevant updates with the team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects and EHS initiatives as part of the overall strategy.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Level 8 Honour’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • 2 years’ relevant experience in a health and safety role is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and relevant standards (e.g. ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Experience in preparing risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety inspections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software systems.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Professional certification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent).
  • First Aid, Manual Handling Instructor, or Fire Warden training.
  • Experience with behavioural safety or safety culture improvement programs.
