Graduate Mechanical Engineer – R&D, Product Development and Design Integration

Universal Graphics is expanding its engineering and innovation capability and is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support research and development activities together with ongoing product development across kiosk, signage and bespoke manufacturing solutions.

This role provides an opportunity for a graduate engineer to gain broad exposure across design, engineering and manufacturing environments, contributing to projects from initial concept through to fabrication and installation.

This is not a desk-based drafting position. The successful candidate will be involved in both design and practical implementation, supporting the physical build and refinement of products developed within the business.

Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will support R&D initiatives while working closely with the Design, Production and Installation teams to ensure that design concepts translate effectively into manufacturable, durable and commercially viable products.

A key element of the role will involve developing an understanding of how materials interact and perform together in real-world applications, ensuring strong alignment between design intent, structural performance and manufacturing capability.

Key Responsibilities

• Support research and development and new product development projects
• Develop mechanical and structural designs for kiosks, signage and bespoke installations
• Assist with prototype development, testing and validation activities
• Work with the Design team to ensure engineering feasibility of concepts
• Contribute to parametric product development and drawing standardisation
• Support continuous improvement of existing products and systems
• Assist with fabrication and physical build of prototypes and new product solutions
• Evaluate material compatibility, durability and structural performance
• Support the integration of engineering principles within design and manufacturing processes
• Provide engineering support across wider business projects as required

Design and Engineering Tools

The role will involve working across multiple design platforms including:

• SolidWorks (or equivalent parametric mechanical CAD) for assemblies, mechanisms, material behaviour assessment and structural validation
• AutoCAD (or similar software) for layout development, elevations and kiosk configuration drawings

Experience in both platforms would be advantageous; however, strong engineering fundamentals and practical application are considered more important than software proficiency alone.

• Hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Demonstrate experience using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software
• Show interest in product development and applied engineering
• Be comfortable working in both office and workshop environments
• Demonstrate curiosity regarding material behaviour and real-world product performance
• Be willing to operate across different engineering and design spaces as required
• Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Show initiative and adaptability within a fast-paced environment
