Job summary

Kirby Group Engineering in Ireland is seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer to support delivery of electrical services on construction projects within our 24‑month graduate programme.

You will gain hands‑on experience on major projects, with mentoring, formal training and CPD, and progression into engineering leadership as you grow. The role offers exposure to site and project support, with opportunities to work across BIM coordination and procurement activities.

Qualifications

• Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings.
• Full, clean driving licence and flexibility to travel.

Kirby’s 24‑month Graduate Programme is designed to accelerate the development of future engineering leaders. Graduates gain hands‑on experience on major projects, supported by structured mentoring, formal training and continuous professional development, providing a strong foundation for long‑term career progression.

Role Purpose

The Graduate Electrical Engineer will support the delivery of electrical services on construction projects, ensuring installations are completed in line with approved designs, specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. The role offers progressive responsibility across engineering, site and project support functions.

Key Responsibilities

Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)

• Comply with the Project EHS Plan and company safety procedures.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and identify potential hazards.
• Ensure all works comply with statutory and company requirements.

Engineering & Technical Support

• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics and specifications.
• Carry out site walks and produce snag lists.
• Support services coordination and resolve clashes.
• Assist with technical submittals and BIM coordination.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and specialist designers.
• Contribute proactively to programme delivery.

Procurement

• Assist with developing and tracking electrical procurement schedules.
• Support receipt verification of materials and equipment on site.

Quality & Commissioning

• Review Quality Plans and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
• Witness testing and commissioning activities as required.
• Carry out internal pre‑testing and track snag close‑out.
• Populate and manage test packs for inspection and handover.
• Assist in compiling certificates and O&M documentation.

Planning & Commercial Awareness

• Develop an understanding of project and commissioning schedules.
• Assist in maintaining progress and commissioning trackers.
• Gain awareness of cost control, variations and commercial fundamentals.
• Highlight potential programme or cost impacts to the project team.

Communication & Client Interaction

• Prepare weekly reports and trackers.
• Communicate effectively with site teams and stakeholders.
• Build professional relationships with clients and designers.

Learning & Development

• Actively participate in the Graduate Programme and CPD activities.
• Maintain compliance with Kirby’s Information Security Management System (ISMS).

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings.

Desirable

• Previous placement or internship experience.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit or BIM tools.
