Job summary

Children’s Health Ireland is seeking an HIPE coder to review discharge charts, extract administrative and clinical information for each day case and inpatient episode, and translate medical terminology into accurate ICD-10-AM codes. You will meet monthly deadlines set by HSE and HPO.

The role requires Leaving Certificate or equivalent, hospital experience, strong IT skills, and excellent communication and customer service abilities.

Job description

Purpose of the Role The purpose of this post is to review charts on discharge, expertly extract all administrative and clinical information relevant to each day case and inpatient episode of care, translate medical terminology using ICD-10-AM 12th Edition into accurate codes that represent the patient’s treatment and diagnoses and to meet monthly deadline as set by HSE and HPO.

• Educated to Leaving Certificate Standard or passed an examination of comparable standard at second level
• Have experience of hospital procedures and hospital activities
• Have excellent PC skills - Microsoft Office suite and other IT related packages.
• Excellent organisational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Medical terminology
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to deal with people in a compassionate and supportive manner with an emphasis on a high level of customer service
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
• Fluent command and understanding of the English language to include spoken and written
