Job summary

Arup is inviting motivated students to join our Ground Engineering team in Cork or Dublin for a work placement. You will contribute to geological, geoenvironmental, hydrogeological and geotechnical tasks across a range of projects in Ireland and abroad.

You'll work with experts to plan investigations, assess land and groundwater quality, and develop environmental documentation, gaining practical experience in a multidisciplinary consulting environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate or master's degree in Geoscience, Earth Science, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science or Engineering.
• Strong interest in geoenvironmental, hydrogeological and geotechnical work.
• Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with geological desk studies and site assessments.
• Support ground investigations planning, drilling and sampling activities.
• Interpret geochemical data to assess land and water quality.
• Contribute to environmental reports and EIAR input.
• Collaborate with experts across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.

The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Work Placement geoenvironmental scientist/engineer to join our specialist Ground Engineering team in Cork or Dublin, Ireland. The team provides geological, geoenvironmental, hydrogeological and geotechnical input to a portfolio of exciting, varied and multidisciplinary projects across Ireland and internationally. Our work spans major infrastructure, energy, water, environmental and development projects, with a strong focus on understanding land and groundwater quality conditions and managing environmental risks
During your work placement at Arup, you will work alongside a team on tasks such as:

• Geological, geoenvironmental, hydrogeological and geotechnical desk studies, site assessments and development of conceptual site models.
• Planning and interpretation of ground investigations, including drilling, trial pitting, rock coring, geological logging, and soil and water sampling.
• Assessment and interpretation of geochemical data to determine impacts on land and water quality.
• Review options for the sustainable use of soils and stone during construction projects
• Groundwater contaminant transport modelling to assess to need for remediation or assessing the potential impacts of the re-use of materials.
• Preparation of technical reports, geoenvironmental assessments, and environmental documentation.
• Geoenvironmental input to Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs), and regulatory submissions.
• Working closely with specialists from other disciplines to develop integrated and sustainable engineering solutions.
• Attending project meetings and communicating with colleagues, project partners, contractors, regulators and clients.
