Chadwicks Group, a leading builder’s merchants group in Ireland, is seeking a General Operative for its Dublin branch. You will help maintain an orderly yard and warehouse while delivering excellent customer support in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a forklift licence (essential), manual handling certification, and prior experience in a builders’ merchants or construction materials setting. A strong team player with good organisation is valued.

Responsibilities

• Receive, check, and process deliveries, reporting discrepancies and ensuring stock is stored safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe warehouse and yard environment at all times.
• Monitor stock levels and report low-stock items to management to ensure product availability.
• Operate forklift equipment in line with company policies and safety regulations.
• Pick, pack, and load orders accurately for customer collections and company deliveries.
• Assist customers with product queries and provide a high level of customer service.

General Operative

Part of Grafton Group Plc, Chadwicks Group is the market leader in the builder’s merchanting industry in the Republic of Ireland. The core business is through the traditional Builders Merchants division. Main brands include Chadwicks, Cork Builders Providers, Davies & Telfords. In addition, and through organic growth and acquisitions the Group have established a range of brands which are close to the core but offer a uniquely different range of products. These include Heiton Steel, Panelling Centre, Morgans Timber, Proline & Sitetech.

About the Role

Reporting to the Yard Supervisor and Branch Manager, the General Operative plays a key role in the day-to-day operation of the branch. You will be responsible for maintaining an organised, safe, and efficient yard and warehouse while providing excellent support to customers and colleagues.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and is committed to delivering a dependable and friendly service.

Knowledge & Experience

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• Previous experience working as a General Operative
• A valid Forklift Licence (essential)
• A valid Manual Handling Certificate
• Previous customer service experience
• Experience working within a busy builders' merchants or construction materials environment (advantageous)

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, check, and process deliveries, reporting any discrepancies and ensuring stock is stored safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe warehouse and yard environment at all times.
• Monitor stock levels and report low-stock items to management to help ensure product availability.
• Operate and maintain forklift equipment in accordance with company policies and health & safety regulations.
• Pick, pack, and load orders accurately and efficiently for customer collections and company deliveries.
• Assist customers with product queries and provide a high level of customer service.
• Remain vigilant and help safeguard company stock and property against loss or theft.
• Work closely with colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of warehouse and yard operations.
• Carry out any other duties that may be required to support the business.

Contract Details

• Fixed-Term Contract
• Full-time, 39 hours per week
• Monday to Friday, with participation in the Saturday roster as required
