Tyndall National Institute, hosted by University College Cork, in partnership with Rinn Semiconductor, offers a fully funded PhD position focused on FLIM photonic integrated circuits for next‑generation endoscopy.

The project spans design, simulation and experimental validation with access to state‑of‑the‑art fabrication and cross‑theme collaboration; supervision by HET and Biophotonics teams; stipend €25,000/year.

Qualifications

• Must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Strong background in photonics, optics or related discipline.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or C++.
• English language requirements per UCC.

Responsabilités

• Design a foundry-compatible PIC for FLIM.
• Explore UV laser pulsing schemes including mode-locking.
• Test and benchmark pulsing schemes at the Tyndall facility or with a foundry partner.
• Develop a second-generation PIC incorporating experimental feedback.
• Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities.
• Ensure compliance with Tyndall’s QM/Safety standards.
