Excel Recruitment is recruiting a Food Technologist for a leading retail business based in Cork, Ireland, to own the Own Brand specification system and ensure compliance.

Food Technologist – Specifications & Compliance

Are you an experienced Food Technologist with strong expertise in product specifications, food legislation and regulatory compliance? We are recruiting a Food Technologist for a leading retail business based in Cork. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of its Own Brand specification system and play a central role in product compliance, reformulation, health strategy, sustainability and supplier training. Cork based role.

Key Responsibilities for this Food Technologist job include:

  • Lead the management and continuous improvement of the Own Brand product specification system.
  • Develop and deliver specification system training for suppliers and internal teams.
  • Provide expert guidance on product specifications, food legislation, legal labelling, regulatory compliance and emerging legislative developments.
  • Act as the Own Brand technical lead for health strategy, product reformulation and related legislative requirements.
  • Lead reformulation projects focused on reducing fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt across the Own Brand portfolio.
  • Conduct internal audits of product specifications to ensure compliance with Irish, UK and EU legislation and internal standards.
  • Identify and implement improvements across specification processes, systems and supporting documentation.
  • Support the development of technical policies through cross-functional projects and working groups.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure product information is accurate, compliant and commercially effective.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory consultants and specification system providers, including contracts, service levels, KPIs and development plans.
  • Collaborate with government bodies, industry experts and academic partners to remain informed of legislation, best practice and training opportunities.

Requirements for this Food Technologist job include:

  • A third-level qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Business or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant experience within food retail, FMCG or food manufacturing.
  • Strong hands-on experience in food specification management and computerised specification systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of food legislation, legal labelling and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of product reformulation, health strategy and sustainability requirements.
  • Strong project management and planning skills, with the ability to manage several priorities simultaneously.
