Role Overview

Our client is establishing a purpose-built, state-of-the-art nursing home on a greenfield site in Galway and is seeking to appoint a dedicated Fire Safety Officer to lead on all aspects of fire prevention and emergency preparedness.

This critical role involves ensuring that the care home complies with all fire safety legislation and best practice standards, providing a safe and secure environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fire safety strategy tailored to the specific needs of a residential care setting.
  • Conduct regular fire risk assessments and ensure that all areas of the home meet fire code compliance.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies such as the Fire Services and HIQA to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Oversee the maintenance and regular testing of all fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems.
  • Deliver fire safety training and evacuation drills for all staff, including night‑shift protocols.
  • Act as the lead officer during any fire safety incident or emergency evacuation.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of all drills, inspections, and safety audits.
  • Provide input on fire safety aspects during the design and fit‑out phases of the new facility.
  • Work collaboratively with the Facilities and Health & Safety teams to identify improvements and manage risks.
Key Requirements
  • Relevant qualification in Fire Safety, Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within a healthcare or residential setting.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Irish fire safety legislation, building regulations, and care sector compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and training delivery skills.
  • Strong organisational and record‑keeping abilities.
  • Calm and decisive under pressure.
